| Comment | Breaking sharply from the six box, race favorite Ben Awhile won the $50,000 Tampa Speed Classic with a 2-length victory over Chipsnchampagne Saturday night (Sept. 14) at Tampa Greyhound Park. Winning time over the 5/16 course was 30.33. Chipsnchampagne broke fourth but rushed to second place in the first turn and was gaining at the end. Time Warp Zack finished a distant third followed by Tahitian, Rammer, Dodgem By Design and Leta's Firebird. Dodgem By Design, second favorite, was blocked in the first turn and couldn't recover. Dodgem won two stake trophies prior to the stake: the $85,000 Sprint Classic and Matinee Idol both at Derby Lane.
