CLICK HERE Today I lost my old friend and Jo her shadow it's been a pretty tough weekend bringing ourselves to make that decision we don't want to make with her health fading fast that Floss,Flossy,Mother had to be PTS.We 1st met Mother in June 2009 at Keith Derricks farm at Cootamundra standing in her kennel tucker tin in her mouth wagging her tail we shared our snags chops steak scraps and anything else the girls would eat but to see Mother with her tin in mouth standing there wagging her tail was too much to take and over the next 12 months we spent time with her when we visited back then we never knew that at a later date that feral dog would be sitting on our lounge laying back eating a sausage roll treat or an ice cream a piece of rump lamb chop you name it she would be there for her cut.She was a barker a biter and a menace in her yard kennel but when she came inside she worked her pecking order out with the other girls and settled in everyday she was waited on at breakfast and when she had finished hers she would come around to the table and stand near my leg where I would place crust or a piece of toast on my knee this went on from when she came in the house until late last week where she started to become less active no Floss. She was Jo's shadow and she would try to hurry her up to go to bed after Jo had been at work all nite and when Jo was at work Mother would lay at the bottom of my bed on her mat on the floor. Floss will never be forgotten we buried her in the bush where the Sunlight creeps thru the trees in the early morn as the Bell Birds start their morning Hymns that's what Jo wanted for Floss she wanted her to have Peace and Quiet just as she did have when she was at Peace Of Mind here at home.Sadly Missed Mother forever remembered Floss
Why I tell this story old Mother was very keen and switched on,she would pass no Fluffy animal test she would've been flat out getting thru the door yet she found a home here in Newcastle with some people that knew how to handle her situation and it was a privilege to have had her around for the few years we had her...RIP

I had one of her daughters nakajima, and she was bonkers too, lol.

had tremendous ability but would just use all her energy when in the kennels barking and going nuts.

Simon Motheruse to give us heaps when she 1st came up from Cootamundra she was like clock work for her meals her times out of the kennels and the barking muzzle use to be on her during the nite then 1 nite I felt sorry for her and bought her down to the house the next day never heard a bark after that she was always with us of an afternoon at feed time she loved digging a big hole and laying in it yep she never lost her farm instincts but she learnt table manners also.I remember her at feed time of a nite I use to put a little place mat down on the lounge where she slept then I would put her feed bowl on top of it just in case she spilt it over then 1 nite Jo went to feed her and she just looked at Jo and refused to eat I picked up the place mat put it on the lounge then bowl on top then she started having her dinner and if the bowl happened to get a little far away she would pull it back to near the edge of the lounge and start eating again ...yes me and Jo have some good memories of that old girl I buried her with her mat with her front paws covering her eyes when ever I turned the light on of a morning at 4am she would cover her eyes with her paws she was never the early morning girl on the lounge only in the kennell

Linda I can remember when I needed Jo to help me at trials at Cessnock and the only way she could go with me was to take the house pets and mother I had Melena Bale and Kate in the van and I left old Mother in the trailer with the doors open anyway a bloke comes along and goes to have a look in 1 of the empty bays and when he stuck his head in the door old Mother wanted him right or wrong he said to Jo tell me that's not a greyhound yep that was the old girl Flossy she was a great watchdog and sometimes nasty she bit Jo one day when she tried to get Flossy off the bed yes she was feral and a pet with it she was never nasty to Melena Bale they got along good a growl here and there but that was it the 2 Wetmead Hawk girls gave her a wide berth at times but they were also good with her.The 1 thing I have noticed with the greyhounds some of them adopt you you don't adopt them Mother showed us she needed us at the end and we showed mother that we didn't mind.Linda it was only last week when she walked to the edge of the lounge and never made an attempt to get up on it I walked over put her 2 front feet on the lounge and picked her up around the stifles and lifter her up when she was steady on her legs she sort of half turned and looked at me as if she was saying thanks old fella.yes plenty of memories especially when she had he 1st ice cream cone that was just a lost cause it was in the mouth and straight down the hatch and if she got hers 1st she would wait for the others while hers was melting between her front legs ...they do make good pets and great mates even the worst of them

I trained "Ruby" for her first five wins for Ray Brown

She was a real hand full barking in her home and race kennels

Put her in the car and she would curl up and go immediately to sleep.

From memory she won 5 from 8 for me before coming on season and Ray took her back

She won those races for us when we really needed them

RIP ol mate

I did have VHS Video's I am not sure its here or with Ray Brown, I will try and find them for you.

We won a trophy race with her at Wauchope and there was a photograph in the recorder, we also took plenty out of the ring during the Armidale Cup carnival with her, Taree two out of two as well, but because she was so keen, I wouldn't put her over any further then 400m and break her heart.

Ruby was an unbelievably hard chaser, with enormous speed out of the boxes.

Unfortunately the neighbours despised her, but she was MY MATE and she would travel anywhere with me, quiet as a mouse, UNITLL race time and forget about trying to trial her!

Put her in a race kennel, she would be peeing blood, every time you got her out to race and her bedding was awash with saliva. No barking muzzle known to mankind could stop her.

Ray Brown said her mother Ruby Brown was the same.
