SAD to announce the death of my brother Dan McCormick aged eighty- five. Dan in my opinion was the foremost greyhound racing manager and general manager and promoter of this and in any era, one article described Dan a "Mr. Greyhound, he craves publicity - he needs publicity - he gets publicity, a greater asset to the greyhound racing than all the yellow Printer's or Shady Begonia's".
Greyhound Stadia, Coventry (Lythal's Lane),Leicester (Blackbird Road),Newcastle Tracks Brough Park, Gosford and Gateshead, Southend, Monmore Green Wolverhampton,Willenhall and Cradley Heath all boomed under Dan's promotional Skills.
After Dan retired from the N.G.R.C. in 1994 he took over Milton Keynes owned by an old friend Reg.Young (John Silver)and a rejuvenated MK and had it's heyday before being sold to the Bristol GR Group. Not done yet! with greyhound racing Dan was persuaded by Don Joyce to take on a bankrupt Oxford Stadium bought out of liquidation. After a three year exciting boom and turnaround in fortune for Oxford racegoers, owner's and trainer's Oxford then became the target and was purchased by the mighty G.R.A. Dan was saddened by the decline in greyhound racing, through in his opinion the lack of any real promotion.
Dan also promoted Speedway Racing and turned the Cinderella track Cradley Heath (The Heathen's) into 1st Div, winners and speedway rider's like Bruce Penhall became World Champions.

Sad to read that Jim, as a speedway fan I can tell you the success of Cradley Heath under Dan's guidance was huge. Amazing track, racing, attendances and publicity. To this day, may fans who attended Cradley still hold memories of that particular period in very high regard.
I'm sure he'll receive many tributes from around the globe.

Dave, I must thank you for your post about my brother Dan McCormick and from someone who knew or remembered Dan from his Speedway days. Old Speedway fans never die, Ha! Whereas old greyhound racing fans just fade away?, they certainly seem to avoid becoming member's of greyhound-data.com or for sure some of them would have remembered Dan for his greyhound racing successes. Dan was famous for much within greyhound racing non more so than his well attended greyhound of the year award balls in Coventry, Newcastle and the Midlands greyhound awards held at the Mayfair in Birmingham when 600 greyhound racing fanatics attended for their night of the year, dancing to the bands of Joe Loss and Ray McVey etc: I must say as a long time member of greyhound-data, I am disappointed with so little response to my post about my brother Dan McCormick passing from real greyhound people. I myself have owned many good greyhounds like Flying Pursuit and Colum's Corner etc; and greyhound-data has been a large part of my life since the year 2000. I can only conclude that all of Dan's and my own greyhound friends and acquaintances are no longer with us or more sadly they are now all so disinterested or immune to the little bit of UK greyhound racing that survives, How Sad! I can console myself that there are hundreds of postings on the Social Media about Dan McCormick from so many Speedway fans who would not know that Dan's first love was promoting greyhound racing.
