Castleisland owner/ breeder Noel Browne certainly hit the jackpot yesterday at Shelbourne Park when he fetched huge prices for a number of young dogs at the high-profile Unraced Sales.
He set a new record for an Irish Sales shortly after 3.30pm when Coolavanny Smash was knocked down for 34,000. But that was only one of the Browne transactions. He brought a big team of his Coolavanny dogs to the Sales and apart from the 34,000 for Smash, he also received 18,000 for Coolavanny Buck, 16,000 for Coolavanny Casba, 9,500 for Coolavanny Act and smaller figures for a number of others. The big priced Coolavanny Smash is a February 15 son of Tullymurry Act and Sarasota Ester. He led all the way for a ten and a half length victory over Kevs Pet in 28.72. The track was rated at .20 slow. News of the big sale is that Robert Gleeson bought the dog on behalf of Neil Conlon who has dogs in training with Jimmy Wright and is the owner of Droopys Buick which contested the Doire Construction Champion Stakes. Gleeson doesnt know the immediate plans for the dog which tips the scales at 85lb weight. Incidentally Gleeson also bought Express Blackie for Ray Dean and Paul Sturridge and that dog is likely to go for the Puppy Derby at Harolds Cross. The two fastest times of the sales were the identical 28.32 runs from Good News and Droopys Wilbury and the highest reserve on any of the entries was the 150,000 on Good News. None of the three fastest winners was sold. There was a very big crowd at the Sales which was very impressive from a quality viewpoint and set umpteen records for a public sales in this country.
