Greyhound-Data offered to work with you to track all dogs in Ireland from birth to death for free. You obviously thought it better to spend 245,000. It is a shame you did not use us and spend this money on welfare or helping the grass roots greyhound man through the current crisis.
"A company in Cheltenham has won the contract to develop a new software system to trace the lives of all greyhounds in Ireland - ten months after it emerged that thousands of these dogs are culled every year. The tender was awarded to Event Log Ltd by the Irish Greyhound Board and will cost 245,000 to build and involves 92,200 in licensing fees each year. When developed the new system will closely track each tattooed dog after it is 12-weeks old."

Francis, it really is frustrating and I am not racing, breeding or training in Ireland so I can only imagine how you guys feel.
Spending money and committing future funds while tracks are closing, participates are struggling to survive and the future of greyhound racing in Ireland is not clear is simply crazy.
Yes they need to account for all dogs but even not using us there are cheaper ways. The IGB has an I.T. department which has a massive budget. They have the records of the pups born, they have the records of the dogs racing, they have the records of how many dogs are exported. The only thing lacking is how many dogs are homed by official groups, how many dogs that trainers, owners and breeders have at home or have homed privately. The GD team has been collecting this information for a while now and we could help fill in some of the gaps. Without these facts the IGB will end up with a lot of missing dogs which the antis will jump on.
So again I will ask the IGB to contact us [email protected] if we can help fill in some of the gaps and of course this help will be given for free.

Does this mean that IGB have taken over the Stud Book from the ICC?

Greyhound Data and its Members have added thousands of unrecorded Greyhounds over many years and the amount of pictures now being added by our Adoption groups is incredible one facebook page alone
called YOUR GREYHOUNDS HISTORY have downloaded thousands of pictures to the retirement pages over the past 6 months alone ...

the system the igb are putting in place will track a pup from earmarking stage something data is not doing at the moment,only dogs which have had a race appear on this site unless put up by a paid up member,i did put up any pups i whelped down and reared on this site as early as possible and any that came in for schooling but admin saw fit to stop anyone adding pups or dogs that had not raced unless you are a paid up member.so any pup that does not make the track for whatever reason is not on record as even being whelped down,so i think this new system will show true records of dogs being whelped down through to retirement.

Hi Stephen, that is why we wanted the IGB and the ICC to work with us to share some information. The IGB will be able to track them until they stop racing but at this point they will find a lot go missing. These are the dogs owners, trainers or breeders have kept or homed privately.
The other alternative the IGB had was to let their I.T. section do the job for them but this also was not done.
The reason Greyhound-Data stopped people that were not paid members entering and editing dogs is due to an attack on the website from anti groups making statement like: This trainer kills dogs etc. Over 300 comments were made which had to be identified and removed, by the time we removed them more were added. I am sure if you advertised a dog for sale and had this placed on your dog's pedigree you would agree with the action we took. Since restricting adding dogs to paid members this has not occurred.

i can understand your reasoning behind thattony but you still have the problem of pups not being put on the site until having a race.

Stephen, I think that Tony's opening post

clearly indicates that GD was intending to work with the IGB on records from birth, rather than the current system where a dog has to race to be recorded here.
I for one think that it was a great gesture from Tony that we could all benefit from, including GD itself. The fact that the framework already exists and was being offered for free should have meant that it was a no brainer for the IGB to accept
