NOTICE TO ALL GREYHOUND OWNERS, TRAINERS AND BREEDERS 4 May 2017 Some of the Provisions of the Welfare of Greyhounds Act 2011: Section 10 (1) & (2) - Notification of Sale or Transfer of Greyhounds 10. - (1) A person who sells or transfers ownership of a greyhound shall, within 14 days of the sale or transfer, give notice in writing to the Club of the fact, the identification of the greyhound and the name and address of the person to whom the greyhound is sold or transferred. 10. - (2) A person to whom a greyhound is sold or transferred shall, within 14 days of the sale or transfer, give notice in writing to the Club of the fact, the identification of the greyhound and the name and address of the person from whom the greyhound was bought or transferred. (Under the terms of the Act, failure to do so will incur the serving of a fixed penalty notice in the sum of 250 (or such other amount, being an amount not exceeding 1000), which if unpaid is subject to prosecution in the District Court.) Section 10 (3) - Death of a Greyhound 10. - (3) If a greyhound dies, the person whose name is entered in the Irish Greyhound Stud Book as the owner of the greyhound shall, within 14 days, give notice in writing to the Club of the fact, the identification of the greyhound and the date of death. (Under the terms of the Act, failure to do so will incur the serving of a fixed penalty notice in the sum of 250 (or such other amount, being an amount not exceeding 1000), which if unpaid is subject to prosecution in the District Court.) Section 18 Functions of Welfare Officers A Welfare Officer may enter and inspect at all reasonable times a premises which he or she has reasonable grounds for believing are being used for the operation of a greyhound breeding establishment or where he or she has reasonable grounds for believing a greyhound is kept, traded, bred, reared, trained, raced or coursed Section 20 Welfare Notice Where a Welfare Officer is of the opinion that the conditions of under which a greyhound is kept, traded, transported, bred reared, trained, raced, or coursed, may give rise to unnecessary pain, suffering or other risk to the health or welfare of the greyhound the Welfare Officer may serve a Welfare Notice on the person in control of a premises where a greyhound is being traded, bred, reared, trained, raced, or coursed requiring the person concerned to take such measures as are specified in the Welfare Notice to cease the contravention or avoid or prevent the threat concerned or the risk to the health or welfare of the greyhound.
