We can look forward to a new CEO, not sure if hes has left the building as such, but he is/has packed- a new job in a far flung post awaits- I'm not sure how he will look with a tan though!

Adrian is a nice, quiet man. His lack of knowledge of greyhounds and greyhound people was always going to be a barrier to his success. I wish him well in his new position. I sincerely hope that his replacement is a more forceful character, with a knowledge of his/her product.

Why not have nominations for the position and let the greyhound people decide ,would that be to much to hope for ?.

Greyhound Board chief Neilan to quit
Friday, December 20, 2013 - 11:29 AM

The chief executive of the Irish Greyhound Board, Adrian Neilan, is to leave his job next week.

The announcement comes just three 16 days after Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney got permission to break public appointment rules in order to grant Mr Neilan a two-year contract extension.

Mr Neilan, who became chief executive of the IGB in 2007, has recently been in the spotlight due to a series of controversies surrounding the semi-state's financial sustainability and decisions taken during the construction of the new Limerick greyhound track.

In November he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee and at present the company is in the process of preparing detailed responses that were sought by TDs following the hearing.

An IGB spokesman said Mr Neilan had decided not to take up the offer of a new contract from January 1.

"Adrian Neilan hasnt resigned and will be seeing out his term of office as chief executive of IGB.

"He is declining the offer a new contract with IGB and will be pursuing another role in the New Year," he said.

Earlier this month Minister Coveney was given permission by Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin to break the rules which prevent a sitting semi-state CEOs from getting a contract extension.

Mr Coveney looked for special sanction for Mr Neilan on the recommendation of the IGB chairman, Phil Meaney.

The new contract would have involved Mr Neilan accepting a cut to his 160,000 annual salary and a requirement to have his replacement appointed by July 2015.

In August Mr Neilan told the Irish Times he would like to remain in office after 2013 if the Minister allowed it.

I think were on the cusp of a great opportunity and it would be very exciting to be around to see it through over the next couple of years," he said.

He could not be reached for comment.

what we do now is ensure that the review into the industry is carried out on time (march next).

then it will be time for the position of ceo to be properly advertised and interviews held.

in my opinion the present members of the gb who fully supported the out going ceo should be asked and then told to leave enbloc as they are of no use to the industry .

With the upsurge in IT jobs coming into the Country I am sure that Adrian Nelian will gain meaningful employment in his field of expertise, I wish him well in any new venture.
Looking throughout the Greyhound industry here in Ireland there appears to be a dearth of talent with the knowledge and love for the sport although I wouldn't mind seeing Patrick Flynn given a go.
Personally I believe that it may well be worth having a look at some of the Greyhound Administrators in Australia who appear to be very innovative in their approach of maximising the yields from the sport.

May the world of greyhound racing now be a better place Neilan is going. Pat Flynn would be no better for the job seamus. He couldn't get better food in Shelbourne what chance has he off getting trainers better prize money and putting greyhound racing back up to the level Pascal had it at??

The new CEO who ever gets the job best of luck to him/her they have their work cut out for them as for getting the prize money back up to what it was well I would think it would be a miracle the money is just not their the Celtic tiger died in 2007 if you don't believe me just ask the 100,000 plus in 90 days or more in arrears in their mortgage and the 500 family's losing their homes every year hope the penny drops for the dreamers stop living in the past and plan for our future with what we have now and let's all be optimistic.

Damien I agree with you to a point but look at the coursing it is still doing well and as you know it is far more expensive than track also horse racing doing well. I keep some track dogs but I could not afford coursing dogs or race horses .I agree we should plan for the future but we need the right plan.

having being without a ceo for the past 7 years(although we were paying) it is up to us to ensure we get a proper ceo to run the industry.

a ceo on a 5 year contract.

a rep from the owners and breeders (2 years)

a rep from the trainers (2 years)

a rep from the dept of agriculture.

a businessman.

and an accountant.

let this committee meet every calendar month, expenses only and no remuneration package.

dispose of the board with its political appointees.

of course the ceo would have to be salaried and could be reappointed if satisfactory.

I couldnt see any reasonable person disagreeing with that. and its workable. Every Coursing Club in the Country is run by Volenteers

Let us wait and see what improvements the new CEO can make. Adrian Neilan has steered us through a very difficult period. Make no mistake his move is our loss and his new employer's gain.

Mugs.
