If he doesn't get what he deserves in court which is at least a very lengthy ban, then we have got to rally together and refuse to race our dogs against his.

In horse racing if any banned substances are found on the trainers premises that trainer will get a hefty fine and a guaranteed lengthy ban, he does not take the HRI to court nor does he try to pass the blame on to someone else, the drugs were found on his property and he is totally responsible for them being there.
Why is there a big difference regarding rules and regulations in greyhound racing? where a trainers dog is tested not once but 3 times and every time the same substance appears, Cocaine, not alone is Cocaine a banned substance but if you are found with Cocaine in your possession you are in serious trouble with the law, but not a greyhound trainer, he can use every excuse under the sun and 9 times out of ten he will get away with it because he brought his Barrister with him, this is where the big difference comes in to play, In HRI their organisation has employed people from a good solid background and they bring plenty of experience with them to add to their already very well balanced/managed company, but unfortunately greyhound racing is all about Politics and it is this political interference which has helped destroy this industry, lets face up to reality, if the 16million funding from government stopped tomorrow Friday 23rd March greyhound racing would go into meltdown from Friday night 23rd March and the board would be running for cover simply because they have no idea of how to run a business, they have no idea of how to manage a business and they have certainly no idea of how to look after and appreciate their loyal owners/breeders, this board have brought this industry to an all time low and have made greyhound racing in Ireland look like something out of a cartoon comic, words like Ridiculous, Pathetic and Farcical come to mind when we see and watch what is going on within our industry, IMHO this board should be made resign with immediate effect as they are clearly not fit for purpose and cannot control the drug cheats. JMHO.

Some neck
But what irritates just as much was being fined for giving a d0g a substance within seven days of a trial or race. I absolutely 100% did not. It was eight days before the race guaranteed. The stewards didnt believe me and took scientific advice that is not accurate enough to tell the difference.

I am not the first to be found guilty on flawed evidence and I wont be the last.

Hardly a case of flawed evidence when someone has 3 positives for Cocaine against them, not unless someone has made a complete and utter cockup of procedures and that wouldn't surprise me either.

Phil Meaney, IGB Chairman commented The Board is very conscious of the need to provide additional financial support to the wider industry.
Its all a bit to late IMHO.

At last the IGB have realised that they will have to offer more money to owners/breeders to try keep them in the game, it has taken them far to long to realise that all those extra costings have taken there tole on owners/breeders, if the wages in the IGB were not as exorbitant as they are there would be plenty to go around, JMHO.

1oo euro lol does not cover the cost of entry fee and diesel, for this incentive to have any hope of working it needs to be 500 euro minimum, but I fear the decline has gone to far to reverse.

If the chairman is conscious that more financial support is required to the wider industry the IGB should give the same 20 place money to ALL other tracks and not Just SP.

The IGB spend 400k on new machine that is capable of testing for parts per trillion, why in gods name did the IGB send the samples belonging to Clonbrien Hero over to Newmarket for analysing, their new state of the art machine must be capable of finding Cocaine in Samples if not it was a bad purchase IMO, Newmarket failed to send back the Positive Cocaine Samples results in a reasonable time frame therefor delaying matters.

While certain elements remain on this board and Regulations Dept the drug issue will never get cleaned up, once those elements are shown the door we will all see big changes occurring and not before time.

Hi Dave

Do you know if a review of withdrawal periods has been done ?
I would assume if this machine tests to levels indicated all withdrawal periods would change, and have to be revised outwards, unless of course levels are applied.

Hi Tom, Head of Governance & Compliance has been missing from action for some time now and she would have been the person to see that a review of withdrawal periods was carried out so I'm guessing that no reviews of any kind have been carried out while Ms Forde has been absent.

Talking Dogs
With the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial now completed, the thoughts of Irelands top young stars will turn to the National Produce Stakes at Clonmel and manager Eddie Anderson expressed a huge debt of gratitude this week as a most willing sponsor has been found for this most prestigious classic.
Lets hope there are no spillage's from the sample bottles, we don't want the other samples to get contaminated, it might be an idea for someone to show the steward how to put on the bottle tops correctly so they don't leak.

GREYHOUND INDUSTRY BILL 2018 GOES BEFORE GOVERNMENT

IGB

Minister of State Andrew Doyle, who has special responsibility for the Greyhound sector, brought legislation to government yesterday to improve governance and tighten regulation in the greyhound racing sector.

Speaking after Cabinet, Minister for State Doyle said I believe that this Bill will provide a sound framework for improved governance and regulation in the greyhound sector, and that it addresses issues raised in a number of reports on the sector. The Bill went through pre-legislative scrutiny in 2017 and, where appropriate, the matters identified as part of that process have been incorporated into the revised General Scheme. The Cabinet has given its approval to have General Scheme drafted into a Bill and my Department will publish the draft scheme on its website for the information of stakeholders with an interest in the sector.

The draft Bill addresses governance issues in Bord na gCon, strengthens regulatory controls in the industry, updates racing sanctions and improves overall integrity. It includes the welfare of greyhounds as one of the statutory functions of Bord na gCon and provides it with powers to make regulations in relation to anti-doping, administration and traceability for both integrity and welfare purposes.

The Heads reflect recommendations for legislative change made in the Indecon Report, the Greyhound Report of the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine and in the Morris Review of Anti-Doping and Medication.

Minister Doyle added I believe that the future of the greyhound sector is now much brighter with the sale of Harolds Cross lifting the burden of debt from Bord na gCon and allowing for investment in stadia and other infrastructure. That future is dependent on a strong governance platform and on the industry having the highest standards of integrity and welfare founded on a strong regulatory system. The provision of a strong legal framework will support the development of the greyhound racing sector in Ireland and ultimately provide a platform to improve its contribution to the economy and employment.

This all looks good on paper, How can you have strong Governance when Head of Governance & Compliance has been out on Maternity leave for the last year or nearly 2 and no one to take over this position, having the highest standards of integrity in any organisation means obeying ALL the rules and regulations and adhering to them and not breaking them deliberately for the last ten years or so, serious changes are required within this organisation before the new bill will have any impact on this industry. JMO
IGB must clear out the drug cheats by implementing the rules and if they cant do that they should pack their bags and leave before they are made to leave.JMO

The IGB maintain they are working closely with other racing Jurisdictions, in the UK when any greyhound returns a positive sample for banned substances that greyhound is banned from racing for 4 months until such time as that hearing has been dealt with, only then can that greyhound give a clear sample and return to racing, Here in Ireland if you return a positive sample you can give a clear test the day after you have been notified of your positive test and continue racing, the IGB brought in a threshold for Morphine because it was by their accounts being used in another Jurisdiction [which by the way is untrue] the IGB & Head of Regulation can introduce the same rule as the UK with the stroke of a pen, you have to ask yourself WHY have they not introduced this rule before now???.
All other sports operate a Zero tolerance with strict liability, strong sanctions with instant banns, but the IGB prefer to introduce drug thresholds and give the cheats a way out, the only way out for those people is out the door and don't come back, we want a level playing but we cant get it when you cheats are around.JMHO

Another Ideal opportunity to remove/Ban people who deliberately use banned substances gone, IGB maintain they must restore Integrity back into our sport in order to attract new people & people who have left back into greyhounds. First steps to restoring Integrity is to restore public confidence and that will NEVER happen while certain element's remain in their positions, Regulation Dept needs to be cleaned out and new heads brought in before anyone will have any confidence in this Farcical show, the IGB state that using certain banned substances is a Quote [Very Serious Offence] but not serious enough to get a ban, this has become ridicules and you have to ask yourself who in gods name is in charge of this outfit???.
This whole industry has gone past laughable and has now become an embarrassment JMHO.
