This is exactly the kind of thing that will see our industry finished. I personally don't have a problem with dogs killing animals, it's nature, I've got a fox terrier that kills mice every bloody day, BUT it's one of the rules we have to follow whether we like it or not. But you get some people who defy the rules, then when they get sprung it ends up being broadcast across the country, again, and we all get tarred with the same brush. I have absolutely no sympathy for these people. What the hell does 'stood down' mean anyway? Is that like 'just go for a holiday until all this blows over' Kick them out for life. Get serious. Send a message. Yes its a petty crime but this is what will destroy it for us all. Death by a thousand cuts.

Or thanks to some inside knowledge.
How did they all know in Vic, NSW & Qld, where to look?
The RSPCA is involved in most of the investigations.
Ironical, given they are the biggest killer of pet animals in this country
Sandro,
To me it's very clear it has been a very well orchestrated sting. How did they know where to hit? Don't underestimate Journalists. Don't underestimate what they will do to be able to stand on the stage come Logie night.
The premise for getting info was to "show a balanced view" to the story. Judging by the title of the doco, it will be 95% negative and 5% percent positive. Positive stories don't sell as well as negatives.
Unfortunately, Journalists don't care about negative repercussions, so you, me, and the authorities say NO. If some stranger comes up to you and asks questions, you WALK AWAY.
Its amazing what they can do in an editing room. Unfortunately the positives will be swept up from the floor.
QLD, NSW, VIC... All hit abt the same time with 3 common factors... RSPCA, POLICE, and 4 CORNERS...
Well done 4 corners...hope you all get a pay rise...be sure to donate some of it to the GAP programme, they will be needing it.

You'd be amazed (well maybe not) at how many young blokes with hunting tyge dogr pull me up walking our dogs and say things like " oh it'd be great to put a greyhound into my dogs" or something similar. Who's regulating these peanuts? I'm sure most of there dogs and litters are not even vacinated let alone registered or well looked after. The greys as always are just an easy target for the do-gooder looking for a cause.

I've just been told that a participant allegedly went to a track in NSW this morning for a legal and authorised `finish on' and he was told that he couldn't because of the current findings. What an over-reaction ! Just like we are writing that 99.9% of us are doing the right thing yet we are now being punished. . Also, I further just finished reading in this week's local paper that wild dogs have mauled thirteen calves in Anna Bay this year. There has been an increase in the last two years. Where are you RSPCA and Four Corners ???
Absolutely true Mark . I was at Gosford this morning and they received an edict ....no more finish -ons until further notice

I'm confused - I thought the follow on was a welfare plus eg. Rewards the dog - is safer for the dog etc. So why suspend the follow on if it's a welfare positive?

Hi guys, I've just been told that the decision has been overturned and it was only for Gosford n Maitland. The decision to suspend the follow ons was not made by HO or GRNSW, but it has since been corrected. Let's see if common sense prevails or there is another twist.

sounds like u where lucky darren look on grv web site it there Trial Track and the registration of 10 persons for alleged live baiting offences at that facility.
GRV learnt Wednesday afternoon of an investigation by the RSPCA into the Tooradin Trial Track.
Following formal receipt of further information today from the Racing Integrity Commissioner Sal Perna, and in accordance with information received from the RSPCA today, the decision was made by the GRV Board to suspend these registrations immediately.
Full investigations by GRV and the RSPCA are underway in relation to this prohibited, criminal activity.
The evidence presented, which relates to a private facility at Tooradin, shows individuals involved in live baiting.
The use of live bait in the training of greyhounds is disgusting and has no place in our sport. Any person engaged in live baiting can expect to be disqualified and prosecuted. We have zero tolerance for these individuals, GRV Chief Executive Adam Wallish said.
In accordance with GRVs Animal Welfare Penalty Guidelines those responsible face a 10 year ban from the sport. Live baiting is also a criminal offence punishable under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 (POCTA) and can attract a jail term of up to two-years and a fine of more than $30,000, he said.
GRV takes matters of animal cruelty extremely seriously. Allegations of live-baiting are extremely disappointing and GRV supports the RSPCA and Victoria Polices efforts to investigate any wrong-doing within the sport of greyhound racing.
GRV does not believe this practice is widespread among Victorian facilities. Anybody with any information regarding such practices is encouraged to contact GRV or the RSPCA

Typical Four Corners stunt. They don't have to guts to do an in-depth expose of horse racing in Hong Kong, Singapore or Macau. It is places like this that horses spend 23 hours a day in a 12x12 brick stable standing on shredded paper waste. This is the life of any poor horse that ends up in one of these gambling kingdoms. Then when their form tapers off and they become a liability where do they end up - try the big cat enclosures at Singapore Zoo for starters. Horse racing is multi billion dollar industry in these places but you won't find the Four Corners team up there investigating the welfare of the horses. They would be run out of the country if they started prying on the welfare of horses in these places. Instead they pick on the easy prey. When you have got literally thousands of owner-trainers in the greyhound industry you are always going to get a few misfits. Its these, no matter who they are, that discredit thousands of good people who enjoy looking after their dogs better than themselves. Greyhounds are natural chasers, a child's squeaky toy from the local $2 shop stuck in a bag is enough to get most of them excited. There's no sympathy for the losers who turn their natural chasers into raving lunatics and the sooner they are out of the industry the better.

If this helps clean up the industry and drive more alignment with the rules we are governed by it could only be a good thing long term. Sure, it's a distraction in the short term, but if the authorities take proper action with those found to be baiting than this will only improve the future cleanliness and overall perception of the industry moving forward.
