Update :
WHAT VICTORIA'S RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSIONER WANTS REGARDING LIVE BAITING: * Increased powers for animal welfare staff. * Close loophole where suspended trainers transfer greyhounds to relative or another on their property. * Regulation of greyhound training. * Alternative methods for training, eg: "run on" and "hoop" lures. * GRV work closer with RSPCA. * Racing greyhounds on national register from breeding until retirement or death. * One independent integrity unit for all three racing codes (greyhounds, thoroughbred and harness). CHIEF VETERINARY OFFICER'S INQUIRY SHOWS: * Gaps in enforcement of animal welfare codes and standards. * Need for review of full life of greyhounds. GREYHOUND RACING VICTORIA'S NEW BOARD: * Chair Ray Gunston - former Essendon Football Club interim CEO, former Tatts Group chief financial officer * Ken Lay - former Victoria Police chief commissioner * Judith Bornstein - Melbourne barrister, former Industrial Relations Commission of Victoria commissioner.

I agree with most of the Commission's Terms of Reference but can someone tell me what's involved in a 'run on' or 'hoop' lure?
I hope the Commission realises that we are training racing greyhounds and not jack russels climbing stairs or running through plastic tunnels?
I certainly hope that the use of a 'carcass' on a lure does not remain on the no no list of things to do. Whatever the image they envisage for the sport, they have to be reminded that it is not illegal to use a dead rabbit on the arm

Does anyone really truely think state racing bodies care if we have fast dogs chase dead rabbits or slow dogs chase plastic toys or vice versa ?
I think not. They just want dogs to race for punters to bet irrespective of quality or times.
Could be wrong just my thoughts during these testing times

Saw that Sandro. I think that it's about time we stood up as a collective and put it to GRNSW that the banning of a carcass is not negotiable. I for one will be at the Richmond Forum and intend to make it clear to him.
Hope you will join me there.

And Back said it all really. If the footage was given to the relevant authorities, they could of acted a lot earlier. Thank you first mate, we have plugged the hole in the sinking ship. Full speed ahead. Cheers. ps you should note the majority of trainers caught are not your everyday T3 to grade 5 trainers and some very influential people have stated they knew nothing of this behavior in the ranks. I find that strange seeming it was from one end of the East Coast to the other that these events have been filmed. There is more than meets the eye, Moriarty!

And Mick we are allowed to use tanned skins professionly tanned but we could find a problem there also especially if they still use Arsenic...Gee they're shooting me down in flames I used to get a skin off my mate when he went roo shooting and I would salt it and tan it myself and make lures out of it ...

Absolutely - Totally Agree !!!! But isn't that their Job? They put on races and set the rules which try to create a reasonably equal playing field & try to provide a reasonably competitive outcome.
With this in mind, isn't it then the job of the participants is to get their dogs to go as fast as they can within the rules.

Joe you can make it clear as you like but I think you will be told to like it or lump it. The rules if ignored will lead to a life ban and more unwanted publicity. I think a better idea would be to get behind the FOL.

Qld rule is no animal or animal product to be used in the training of greyhounds. Ie skins of any kind. Only synthetic material. Boss of GA said that they plan to make this a national rule.

Would that then include not being able to tie a sausage or piece of steak to a lure on an arm, given these are animal products????
It's imperative that these pups/dogs are rewarded for their chase....why does a lion jump through a hoop on fire at a circus or a killer whale jump out of the water at a theme park......food reward....simple.

Its a shame that when different states make local rules they can't confire with there counterparts in other states and come up with a rules wording that then could become a national rule easier.
In QLD the term for the lure construction is ARTIFICAL MATTER
In victoria the term used is SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
Now to look at them they are similar but there must be a difference that could be argued OTHERWISE USE THE SAME TERM GUYS

If you have not watched this link I feel it is imperative that you do so. I believe personal should be brought to justice for failing to report criminal actions when it was first witnessed which allowed more animals to suffer. As the Senata Back said. It had little to do with the animals welfare. When it was reported it was stopped within hours. Those who failed to report the events are responsible for three months of cruelity being inflicted. They should be charged.
