So very Sad Warren. Can't help thinking something about this tho doesn't add up, on the 29th Sept in your post whoever you spoke to [one of the businesses] said she wasn't there, [did they actually go look for her ?] yet she has been found there now, very strange?? Seems like no one really bothered, especially the people who supposedly were on there way to get her. And now greyhounds make the headlines again on 7 news, and the write up is pointing the finger again to the industry. I do hope someone puts them straight on this one. Apologies for the rant, just makes me mad when us as trainers do the right thing and and then get the BAD publicity.....I do hope 7 News will run an apology to you Warren.

Another disgraceful example of sensationalist "reporting".
So sorry for you & the family Warren ... RIP, Mia.

Warren
Sorry for your loss mate, I was contacted about an hour ago, and for what it is worth, we have chased up Channel 7, by phone, and the below email.
To Whom It May Concern
The QGBOTA is disgusted with the reporting by Channel 7 regarding a greyhound that was found tied up to a fence in Capalaba.
If any proper investigation was undertaken, it would have been found that the greyhound got loose trialling at Capalaba Greyhound Track on Sunday morning 27th September, 2015.
The owners and other participants searched for hours to find the greyhound a brindle 24kg female. They contacted the Local Council as well as the RSPCA immediately in case the greyhound was found.
The owners also placed a topic on Greyhound-Data.com on 27th September, 2015, to alert participants in the Capalaba region.
The owners have been distraught and to finally here about the greyhound has had them in tears. Someone has obviously found the young greyhound, and tied it to a fence, and not reported it, but it was not a greyhound participant.
On behalf of the owners and the greyhound industry we expect an apology and this to be corrected asap.
The QGBOTA will be considering legal advise should a balanced report not be forthcoming, as this continued unbalanced reporting is not ethical.
Kind regards
Brenton Wilson President Queensland Greyhound Breeders, Owners & Trainers Association

Well done Brenton
AND maybe RQ would now like to add to there infrastructure "TO DO" list as a matter of urgency fences around dog tracks that are not fenced.
This is a scenario we don't want to see happen again, such a tragedy that it had to happen at all.

Response from Channel 7
Hi Brenton,
Thank you for your email.
We have re-read our article and can find no inference that anyone from the greyhound community was involved in the dogs death.
The story acknowledges that the owner reported the dog missing to police.
Here is a link to the article if youd like to have another look: EXTERNAL LINK
Kind regards,

Kind regards,
My response:
Thank you for your email.
But you also have the responsibility to alert the general public to the facts regarding the incident. Now knowing the facts, you have a responsibility to notify the general public.
That it is reported in your article that it is under investigation, suggests that something illegal may have occurred.
In the current climate surrounding the greyhound industry, the media are quick to highlight negativity, yet are not giving a balanced and informative opinion to viewers. When was the last time Channel 7 actually contacted a greyhound participant in Queensland to get an objective view regarding an issue?
You might want to explain to the owners of the greyhound because of your article, they have been hammered on their facebook page by animal liberationists and being called killers and murderers.
No your right, you more than anyone else should know that it is what you infer, not what you say.
You now have the truth regarding the incident, failure to report, just shows the bias of Channel 7.
Kind regards Brenton Wilson President QGBOTA

The outcome is sickening...for Mia, for her owners and for those of us who empathise with them. The final nail is the 'news report'.

Persistence Obviously Works.
Channel 7 have offered to print a statement on the report:
Media Release - Queensland Greyhound Breeders, Owners & Trainers Association
The QGBOTA would like to highlight information relevant to the young greyhound 'Mia' found tied to a fence in Capalaba.
This young greyhound 'Mia' was trialling at the Capalaba track on Sunday the 27th September, when she ran off the track and towards the main road of Capalaba. The owners and others searched the streets surrounding this area for several hours to no avail.
During this time the Redland Council, RSPCA and Racing Queensland were notified of the incident. The owners also posted on the Greyhound-Data website & Facebook to highlight their concern to Industry participants and the general public in Capalaba.
The outcome is horrendous...for Mia and for her distraught loving owners, and for those of us who empathise with them.
What has been disappointing is that some people have seen this as an avenue to attack the owners on Facebook, when they were not privy to all the information.
STOP.
Kind Regards
Brenton Wilson President QGBOTA

I contacted channel 7 immediately last night after the article was released informing them that they do not have all the facts. Got much of the same response. They don't seem to understand how the public understand these things. The Brisbane Times also printed a rather questionable article today as well.

Sorry for your loss. Very sad to hear, but there should be an inquiry into how the 'group' (was it the RSPCA?) who said they were going to pick her up, failed in their duty. Who the hell tells someone to tie a found dog to the fence and leave it? I can bet they never bothered. Poor bloke who found her and was told this-, has anyone found him to explain? Bet the media won't report that. Perhaps someone should point this out and see how much flak they would like to get on social media. Keep up the pressure on the news reporters, don't let a tragic incident get manipulated again. One of ours jumped a fence, luckily the gates were all shut and fenced in and he couldn't get far.

I'm so sorry Warren & family. I really am lost for words regarding your loss. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
It's so typical of the media to GRAB any chance they get, to make a BUCK.
No wonder I haven't brought a paper since the year 2000.
As for the MAIN-STREAM-NEWS-TV-CHANNELS....I switch then off after the first three stories. The rest is all sensationalized & utter rubbish.
This story just proves how heartless news Corps / reporters have really become.
Never let the truth get infront of a story......pr1cks
If a NEWS CORP ever gave a fair & truthful summary of the days happening, it would then command the ratings...along with the respect it once had.
They've obviously lost their way though greed.

Does anyone believe this?
Police and the RSPCA are investigating how the dog came to be tied to a pole and said it was possible someone may have found it and thought it belonged to local businesses.
What normal thinking person is going to tie a dog to a post if they think it belongs to a local business?
Wouldn't you take the dog home and call the business when it was open?
My opinion is the dog was found by an AR and tied up and left it to die to create the story that it did.
Killing an animal or setting something up to look like cruelty has been done a number of times by groups like PETA.
Here is an example of what PETA did with dairy cows. The link to the video is in the first sentence.
