Hooked on Scotch will get a heap of services just off people with Fernando broods. But it won't be long and people will have Hooked on Scotch, Simon Told Helen, shima shine, shima bar, raw ability, beast unleashed, fast times, mepunga blazer, aston dee bee, dyna double one, Ritza Lenny and probably a few more Barcia Bale sons to choose from. Some will throw good attributes, some won't

But I don't blame people for waiting to see on what Hooked On Scotch produces before using him because yes you're right people rushed in to Aston, Mepunga and DDO before seeing what attributes they'd add/take away and not everyone is overly happy with the results.

Aston is so far throwing a lot of short coursers but adding speed and chase so a 700m broodie is gold. DDO has a lot of barkers but adds stamina so if you have a laid back broodie he's good. And Mepunga pups can be a little bit full on but he's adding chase and stamina so if you have a bit spooky or weak in a field broodie he's great. But this was all unknown about them until people used them so if you waited and seen you'll have to pay a higher stud fee but you have the benefit of knowing a little bit about the progeny

higher stud fee when proven 2/3 thousand ? wasted litter say 20/30 thousand depending on numbers , not to mention the two years of time waste ,
there is plenty of new and small breeders who haven't been burnt yet ,so by all means use unproven sires take your chance ,

then there are large breeders who can smother a failed litter in their numbers ,

Exactly mate. People will use him but I'll be taking a wait and see attitude on Hooked On Scotch and if he's unbelievable at stud for the people that take the punt on him good luck to them. He's $2200 unproven, if he's $3300 proven it's a small price to pay

Matt James ,
Hooked On Scotch's service fee will probably be more like $4000
when he's proven & won't be surprised he throws majority of 500m plus dogs & we'll never know what distance he could of ran up to due to his career being cut short to injury ,
In regards to Aston Dee Bee I'm not surprised he's mostly throwing very speedy dogs over 400m as i hinted that he'd do that when he started his stud career as I questioned (on social media) whether or not he'll produce strong race dogs (500m plus) but was bombarded by lots of industry members who called me every name under the sun & so far have been vindicated & still believe till this day that Aston's best pups will be from strong bitches that he served ie 600m plus winners , sad how these days so many can people mistakenly think someone sharing their opinion automatically means that person doesn't like a specific stud dog when it couldn't be further from the truth nonetheless we're spoiled for choice in the stud ranks & we're in for some interesting times ahead breeding & racing wise.

just to clarify my point , i got no idea what his stud fee will be , nor do i care , i wont be using him until proven,,

what i meant with 2/3 thousand was , that may be the premium i have to pay once proven, thats above what ever his unproven fee may be

Matt are your comments derived from watching stud dogs when they were racing or watching their offspring or both ?

Not at all having a go at you as I love reading your comments, just wondering how your opinions of which types of bitches suit which studs are formed. Cheers.

I gauge my opinion mainly seeing what a stud dogs offspring are like in the rearing yards, but also a mixture of the sires racing patterns, their offspings racing patterns and just word of mouth around the tracks

As stupid as it sounds with his record I'm not convinced on Hooked On Scotch. But I'm more than happy to be wrong and if his offspring have good temperaments and good attributes regarding chase I'll be 1st in line to use him

Interesting difference of opinion. On the face value of it...watching Zambora Brockie, youd go along way to find a harder chaser than Brockie! Id have expected that to be put into his pups.

Hooked On Scotch is well documented, but had that freak quality. Going to be very interesting to see how he performs at stud. He has many positives...a sire line that seems to be producing a heap of sires which have fast offspring.

Then, he comes from a dam line which has produced a stack of sires...some great, some fair. And as I mentioned above...carrying Droopys Kewell, would definitely be a reason Frightful Flash Kennels purchased his half brother Out Of Range. Beccuse many a successful sire in Ireland/UK carries Droopys Kewell...

Id say at worst Hooked On Scotch will be the equal of these sires in Ireland. Droopys Kewell in him matches many lines throughout Australia!

Missed another one. It gives plenty of support to Hooked On Scotch siring some Group class offspring...Droopys Kewell playing his part...

That's about as good as it gets as far as having an opinion on an outcome from a pup perspective goes. Someone I know put his skittish bitch to MB and the result at only 8mths of age is as you called it. Thx Matt I really enjoy reading what you write, and as you say if you're wrong you're wrong, at least you've had a go. Cheers.

Kind of like when someone used to mention margins at every possible opportunity regardless of thread topic?

HOS is a son of Barcia Bale and a half brother to Out of Range and Poke The Bear

Therefore, all sons of Barcia at stud and his two half brothers can be drawn into the conversation for comparison

That's where I am coming from

Steven ,
"Nice Job" distorting my earlier comment like a true msm journalist, you conveniently left out what I said about Hooked On Scotch & focused solely on the ADB portion of my comment lol

Fast dog & I hope he goes well at stud but his record still has a fail to chase against it at the Meadows & he never raced there again.
In saying that he was as fast a dog ive seen for a long while and with a clear run I think hed beat all previous mentioned dogs on this thread.

Time will tell how he goes
