Hello
I am new to Greyhounds,
Would different types of dogs stayers v sprinters be more susceptible to injuries that kept them off the track?
Which type of dog would be less prone to injury if any?
Kind regards
David Roberts

G'day David,it doesn't make any difference if the greyhound is a 300 mtr sprinter or a 700 mtr stayer, injuries are a unfortunate part of racing mate,& they can occur at any point of the race, from the time they jump from the boxes, until they have the lead & collar put on them in the catching pen. As far as which is more prone to injuries, the dogs who put in every time, are probably more at risk of injury, due to them galloping as hard as they can every race or trial,& pushing their bodies to the extreme, those dogs which simply don't put in are generally out the back, away from the "argy bargy "that transpires in the first 100 mtrs,& dont put the same stress on their muscles & bone structure. Race falls,on the other hand dont discriminate, again, these can occur from the start of a race until the dog has a collar & lead put on in the catching pen.
