Lost Starline Express to a fractured hock last might in a Wentworth park shite show ..just one of several casualties.

I have a decision to make , because of the way GRNSW new vet scheme operates if i want to access any assistance with his vet bills i have to sign a waiver that the dog will not race or breed . The dog will not race again 99% sure of that but not sure why he should be penalised and not able to breed ? Anyway ..

Serious question what are peoples opinions on him being a prospect at stud ? The dog had very serious early split pace and unfortunately i dont think he ever got to show what he was truly capable of.

He was the fastest ever Dave Brett maiden winner , group 1 national derby runner up to Victa Damian , whisker off a Hobart 1000 victory, ran trialing unofficial track records etc etc
Part of the reason i ask this question is the state of the industry and breeding nos being way down etc..so really im looking just for considered no BS opinions on his chances as a stud dog ???

It'll probably be a hard slog with matings most likely initially being made up of your own and friends litters. But Bernardo and Aussie Infrared have shown a gun sire can emerge from very quiet beginnings as a sire

If you're willing to back your boy and play the long game there's no reason not to give him an opportunity at stud

Hey Dave, I would be investigating why he cant breed and asking the question as that seems ludicrous and needs to change. With breeding numbers down and being another son of Fernando at stud I feel it would be a struggle to get numbers. I think it would have to be a decision made with no regard to profit or monetary gain considering you will have to pay hes vet bills under that ridiculous rule. Its a hard game and getting harder with not much hope for the future the way I see it. You only have to go on greyhound data these days to see the changes. More give aways then anything else. Dogs not chasing properly is a common theme. Not near as many topics of thoughts on matings on the forum as there was only two year ago. It really stands out the changes that have occurred on GD in recent times. Anyway mate good luck with your decision and Im only giving you my honest opinion. Beautiful dog in an ordinary industry. Cheers

Agree with the others, the market is too hot for Fernando sons here unless you can breed the litters and develop them yourself

For example a dog like Deliver, who was a track record holder himself over 500m and has produced a Group 1 winner in Transponder has only got 4 bitches in his whole stud career, the latest being a mating by the owner on 19 Nov 23....thats how hard it is

Anyway, with his great early pace and his damline breeding I think he would be a good option to be marketed in Ireland

They have several sires with Surf Lorian sitting in the sire line to line breed into his damline and having a Fernando son (with Irish blood in his damline) with Where's Pedro (to line breed to Crash) as well as Bombastic Shiraz in the damline you would think he would be a natural for them
