Terry, Mad Tanist would have been that fee at his peak. I was making the point that at 100Aussie $ some poster might recall him. I wonder do you recall a trainer at Park Royal name Stan Gudgkin, not sure if I recall name correctly, he went from there to Clapton around 1963 to take over when Gregg Doyle left. If I wanted to check back what might be the best way? I heard that John Guilford ( Manx Treasure etc. ) had bought the database of the Greyhound Express.

mugs my point on mad tanists fee is that 100 in the forties was equal to 13 weeks wages for a london based tradesmen plumber /brickie etc, current wage minimum of 6/700, making a top fee today in these terms of 8/9000 plus, are there any standing at this figure? stan gudgin was in 1956 a kennel lad at wandsworth which was the flagship stadium of the london stadiums group the others being charlton and park royal the kennels for all three were based at sunbury middlesex the seasons principal race at wandsworth was called the olympic over the 6 bend 600 yds course and that year the favourite and ultimate winner was both wandsworth trained ,and owned by there leading owner, ronnie ezra , its name eludes me however a dog fell at the first bend with the local favourite streaking away in the lead , stan raced onto the track getting the dog off so preventing a rerun. His reward was being made up to trainer at the first vacancy at the royal and later i am sure moved over to wandsworth he went to clapton as an advancment joining others there such as paddy keane?, you would remember him, and the ex private trainer phil rees later of wimbledon .upon clapton s closure i am sure but not certain that he went to slough or the old reading , both of which ultimately closed !! it was a terminal time for the london/near london tracks ,they gave way to supermarkets / shopping centres not clear re your checking back, any way thats the best i can do terry

Terry, I take your point about the stud fees, as you know well we are talking about completely different times. I recall opening the sporting supplement of London Evening News and there on the front page was Just Sherry or his likes taking a hurdle at Stamford Bridge. I myself sold a dog that won a puppy stake in the early seventies for a grand plus the stake that I got. Decent house then 2500.
Stan Gudgin did go to Slough, remembered when you said it. Pretty sure Stan came from P.R. to Clapton, he trained an ex. Irish dog named Imperial Beam at P.R., my uncle had an interested in him. You must have seen Crazy Paving at Wandsworth. Very interesting thanks.

mugs the dog who won that i could not recall was of course CRAZY PAVING.!!! JUST SHERRY was trained by john shevlin at white city who moved there from new cross.as a matter of interest stamford bridge never saw the seventies it closed in july 1968 terry

on closer examination of the breeding of my pups (primo uno x ashwood grove) they have 7 lines of tapestry , can you confirm this for me Tom when you get the time? thanks Adam.

Thanks Terry, I do recall that he was Wandsworth's famous dog, I thought that must be the dog your were talking about. Thanks again. Sorry if I gave the impression that it was 70 I was talking about re Stamford Bridge. I left Blighty in 1965 came in 59.

Adam - yes 7 crosses as far as I can see. The more the better. Another interesting one for Tapestry is Pacific Sky CLICK HERE who won the 2004 National Derby. He has 9 crosses of Tapestry through Rock Marn 3(by Rocket Jet), Brocatel 5 (by New Dream), Lord Lakey 1 (by Rocket Jet). None of the Woburn Lass line (by Chief Zephyr) that produced Bunyip Bint and Gold Grotto, that you have in your bitch through Awesome Assassin. Cheers

Just went to Tapestry's pedigree and our Irish friends have tracked down some details of her family. Her dam's brother Devil O'Leer CLICK HERE and this is her sister Talking Picture CLICK HERE Thanks guys now we know a bit more of where she has come from its easier to understand her amazing influence in Australian breeding.
