Steve is always very humble. He is 1 of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. He has been breeding great/champion dogs for years & any success he has never really surprises.
Great win, Great dog, Great Trainer, Great owner. Love this sport!!

A few of you have become embarrassing.
Well, that's a bit rough, Jeff! You - the ONLY person on this forum to recognize and/or congratulate Steve?? Steve was the first person I spoke to after the race - as I am sure he was for many people. Have a read of the Easter Egg thread - you actually are not the only person "gracious" enough to recognise Steve's undoubted brilliance as a breeder! So, don't be sad - there were others!!

G'day Donna,
I understand your post, however I interpreted Jeff's post differently to you. GD's Forum is quickly becoming a PR site for a minority of people that just use their "mates" to continually bump threads under the guise of "How's your XXX doing?"
"Or any news on break-in times on XXX's pups"
They are doing this for their own commercial interests only.
Donna - honest, vendors, breeders, owners, participants like you are open and honest about their news updates. Many others aren't and it's driving good greyhound people away from GD.
Just look at why people like Mick Barry don't post here anymore, and 100's more like him.

Terry i just re-read this thread as i thought there must have been someone on this thread promoting a mates dog but i couldnt find wat you were talking about. Donna was the only one that linked a connection between her breeding and STEVES but then you said she obviously had no commercial gain from her comments. I may have missed something here TERRY but im confused at wat your getting at, can you explain wat you mean. Not being smart i just cant see where you linked wat JEFF said to wat you have stated.

Christ, sorry for that on this Easter Sunday but, I've got nothing to promote( is putting an ad in about a litter promotion??? ) Give yourself a pat on the back Jeff for being the only person who thinks/posts that Steve has done well and deserves a mention. This topic is titled Cosmic Rumble and was started before the heats were run. You were giving Spiral Nikita a serve as a sire a few pages back. How many times have we walked past a winning owner or trainer on a race night and said "well done" hundreds probably and the person wouldn't know you from Adam. Yet we get from you, were all ass holes for not mentioning that, that you did.
Anyway ; Just saw the replay on The Pen as I couldn't get there this year, poor ol Darren looked like he just walked out a freezer room, shaking like he was. It was shear emotion and shows his humility at what he just achieved, WELL DONE (oops this thread is about Cosmic............sorry.............)

I believe Cosmic Rumble has a fantastic opportunity for stud success. Just look at his pedigree. CLICK HERE I don't believe Spiral Nikita (or I hope at least) will have much influence on his ability to become a stud success. The fact Cosmic Rumble is out of a daughter of Brett Lee is his first HUGE plus. This allows some judicious linebreeding to Wee Sal, Sobbing Sal and could even open up granddaughters of Big Daddy Cool. Add to that the established nick Brett Lee has with Bobniak. Something like this. CLICK HERE This will also open up also the suitability of bitches by Pure Octane going to Cosmic Rumble. (Many of the best progeny of Pure Octane are out of Brett Lee bitches). Something like this: CLICK HERE The fact Cosmic Rumble carries Malawi's Prince through a daughter also allows a duplication of Malawi's Prince. This can come through Pure Octance, Black Enforcer or any of the lines that carry Malawi's Prince i.e Bombastic Shiraz etc etc. Something like this. CLICK HERE The fact Brett Lee has New Tears as his damsire, also brings in the chances of bitches with SONS of New Tears to be mated to Cosmic Rumble (ie Light Of Fire, Awesome Assassin, Collision etc). Something like this. CLICK HERE Collision in particular will be an interesting match with Cosmic Rumble. Something like this: CLICK HERE The fact Cosmic Rumble has an important DAUGHTER strain of Brother Fox in his damline, and only one SON strain, allows him to mate bitches that are saturated with Brother Fox through sons. Something like this. CLICK HERE So you see, Cosmic Rumble has a fabulous pedigree to suit so many, many, many broodbitches in this country. That is the opportunity for him to succeed at stud. Many of the stud dogs who retire don't have this opportunity.
Cosmic Rumble's sire Spiral Nikita is an outcross and a source of hybrid vigor. His influence within this pedigree will come through Cosmic Rumble's sisters, but they too need to be linebred and in-bred to the best parts of their damline i.e. Gun Law Osti, Sobbing Sal/Wee Sal, Malawi's Prince and further instances of Brother Fox and his half brother Acacia Park.
I like this David do you???
Would puting Brett Lee bitches to 'imports' be the answer for many of them???
Don't get me wrong, I like the dog, but why would him winning the race tonight make him any better as a stud proposition compared with if he hadn't been in the race at all, apart from saleability of the pups?
By the way, congrats to the dog and connections, a well deserved win and Darren was unusually emotional after the race.
doesn't it make him worth more because he's proved he can do it against Group 1 dogs in a race that EVERY Group dog in the country chased??? I for one feel that this dog could be a massive boost for the australian breeding industry because (a) he's a HARD chaser, (b) he has, arguably, the best dam-line of any australian sire and (c) he will stand, i am told, at $1100 which will mean that he will get the volume of bitches to prove his pedigree.... I'm already planning 18 mths ahead...:) i am told that HE is to start off at $2200 and I sure know which one I would rather use... there are plenty of speed sires in Oz... imo
Not to me Dale. I didn't see anything in that run that I hadn't seen before and if there was something I'd want to see it happen more than once.
As I posted it'll make a difference in the saleability of his pups and also add to his stud fee but not what he's able to pass on. Remember that all they can pass on is their genes, not their trophies.
yeah fair enough, i guess when it comes down to it times are king HOWEVER i'd rather have a quick chaser than a speedy cat as the former will win you a lot more finals.... how often is it that boxes win group finals because of the closeness of the competition and yet CR manages to come out last from box 6 and still chase down the leader in a Group 1 field (granted it wasn't HE or FM in front). they are the traits i think should be valued in a dog as a dog like Gardam Prince (who has run 29.79 at Meadows) will NEVER be able to beat a group field (not counting Tassie) unless he draws box 1 and runs 5.30 to the first mark... just my opinion graeme...
just to add to CR's creds... i think it should be noted that this dog has run 29.64, 29.73, 29.80, 29.99 WP, 29.56 SP, 29.85, 29.97 BGC, 29.78 Lismore... which puts him in elite company yes..?

You are absolutely right Dale - last year Cosmic Rumble was being bagged because despite being fast he hadn't produced the goods at Group level. Now that he has - I don't think it can be credibly argued that it doesn't make any difference. (Regarding the second quote below - Not wanting to reopen the Shootout debate - whether he should have been selected or not - just using a post from that topic as an example to show how he was regarded because of his lack of Group form)
A few examples:

Pity Cosmic Rumble just missed second and a place in the final.
\ Tom, the dog had his chances. It the same every time he meets a field that can run, he gets beat.
At least we wont have to suffer him at stud, they'll load him onto the Irish mugs.
Scott Taylor wrote:
You're missing the point Tom. He just doesn't cut it against the best which is reflected by his form at Group level (none) and had no right to be selected in front of the two reserves. Had every chance and still couldn't win. It's a moot point now...
Tom, how has this win made any difference at all to what he can pass onto his offspring? As you know, it makes no difference at all. There's the credible argument.
Yes it makes a difference to his stud fee, yes it makes a difference to the price of his pups and yes it goes part way to shutting up his baggers (of which I'm not one).

graeme... i'm not arguing your point, it's well made - a dog CAN only pass on it's genes... what i'm saying is that it's in CR's GENES to chase hard regardless of where he comes out and that it's in his GENES to run fast times.... that's what he will pass onto his pups - especially considering his impeccable dam-line... imo
