Jeff, I have to say that I am now a bit confused (which can be a common occurence! LOL!) ...... Is this correct - WE all got a bagging because you felt you were the only one that was wonderful enough to recognize the effort Steve had put in to breed such a good dog and that he should be congratulated for it ("(not one) recognized or congratulated the effort of Steve Kavanagh in breeding this dog.......so I'll do it as he has certainly earned it").............. If you feel CR is such an mediocre dog who was just lucky on the night, so to speak, and if winning the Easter Egg is just like winning a FFA and it was no big deal cos the time was slow, etc, etc, - then why would you congratulate anyone for breeding him? Might just be me, but I don't get it! :-)
Donna
Jeff wears two hats...a bookies hat and a breeders hat....he does pretty well with both...but sometimes he ties to put both hats on at the same time & marry the two together....herein lies the confusion...LOL
PS nice run by your Token Prince bitch last night at Warragul...she came home like a train after mssing the kick by 4 lengths
Jeff
I rate Cosmic Rumbles run in the Bill Collins Memorial when he won in 29.58 as his career defining run...he beat some great dogs that night including Velocette
I think that his win only proves that Spiral Nikita is a sire that works here in Oz as his stats are the highest rating of any sire that I have rated
The fact that he has served around 70 bitches since he has been here and has managed to get several top class performers including Talks Cheap, Spiral Glory, Spiral Magic, Spiral Glory, Bo Frazier, Dusty Retreat your dog Dazzler & Nevada Sunset(via LLS) etc etc speaks volumes as to how well his bloodlines and are nicking with ours
Some of our 'hot' sires get 200 bitches and struggle to get a major winner
I think Cosimic Rumble has the 'odds' in his favour to be a pretty good sire here and it sounds like he will get the necessary bitches to make a sound judgement in the future, especially if he goes in at the fee of $1,100 that seesm to be doing the rounds
Sandro, speaking of framing a market & looking at a subsequent wager, I'll bet you 3-1 that he WON'T start out under $1,200 ;-)
You sound pretty confident Anthony...I think you have inside info..LOL

Jeff The only run of CR's to me worth questioning was his heat in the Australian Cup, as i clearly expected him to run the BON and be fav for the final. His run/time in his semi of the egg was exactly what i expected as i had in the Aust Cup heat, where he failed to produce. On the subject of him at stud he should be a similiar quality if not better than Collision. So he should be good value around $2200
Wod Sit by your phone, will call you this arvo.

Donna, with Steve i'm recognising the culmination of years of effort, not focusing on just the one race, one dog. To be honest as a breeder, I think its pretty insulting that you can spend years breeding, whelping and rearing pups from the one line, dealing with the slow as well as the fast, and its not even mentioned.
The rest, is as sandro says the perspective I bring as a bookie. If you think some of this is confusing, then you should see the looks i get when i've bet against my own dogs, and they win. I've had several interesting conversations with stewards over the years LOL
As a breeder, i'm happy they've won, but that doesnt affect what takes place with the betting.

Cosmic may not be as expensive as some suggest. Steve, Tony and Darren being very close didn't put a huge price on Collision straight away. Here's hoping.

Since I like you, Grant ... you can have first slice of 7-2 ;-) (seems I'm having trouble laying him at the moment!)

For those that want to delve into the mysteries of times on loam tracks, and why taking note of times on prepared tracks if fraught with danger, Fancy Mandy led all the way at Dapto last night, 29.67.
When looking to find the true ability of dogs, it helps to look at the times they run on normal tracks. FM isnt at her peak, that was when she ran the 29.49 at wenty, and as I said in an earlier post she has come to the end of her current formline, and it looks as if she is going to settle at about .25 off her best for the time being.

Couldn't resist, as I reckon he could be one that'll make his mark as a Sire; and the fact I'm associated with at least 2 broods that I reckon are a great match for him helped in my quick decision-making too!

hi all, lets hope he can do well at stud, he wasa super race dog, but history tells us that SPIRAL NIKITA sons dont produce, maybe the aust in him will turn that around, he would be good value at $1,650au frozen, he would work well over COLLISION AND COLLIDE broods, any way wish owners well and may the best come to him, take care cheers wayne

Wayne - it could equally have been argued that Awesome Assassin sons "don't produce" until Collision came along with that same damline.
While it generally makes sense to wait and see with unproven sires, if you reckon you've got the right cross sometimes it's better not to wait. Cheers, Tom
