personally when frozen was 1st talked about the cost of the implant and semen was suppose to be a lot cheaper than [How many splits from 1 shot]a natural service....low and behold the frozen is either the same or dearer ....the studs have the monopoly they are free to charge what they like for frozen and so are the vets free to charge for the Operation @ 600 a throw more or less it becomes a joke when they can do the job in less than a 1/2 hour ....I know that it is wishful thinking but 1 day I would love to own a top grade chaser ....I,m afraid the middle man would be cut right out of the deal unless ...everything was done with a set price ....natural 1500 ...and frozen 1000 all up with implant ...and if I could,nt find a vet that would operate then stiff titties
So Dr Des maybe it,s time for us slum dwellers to take the control back from the rich and share it amongst the poor ....I can remember what my old mentor said to me all those years ago ...Son when you start taking your dogs to vets ...give the game away or shoot the dog ...not a truer word spoken ...mind you there are exceptions to that rule not many though

Win or loose dr still gets his cut..

Who are you to say who is a second rate sire. Someone has paid money for the frozen semen and they must want it for their bitch. Dr Fegan can always say he is too busy if he wants. No one forces him to do the operation.

Years ago in the UK I looked at a dog for a guy and recommended he get a toe injury X-rayed, he took the dog to Des and got a torrent of abuse for not taking the dog to him directly.

In those days many trainers told me how opinionated Des could be on certain subjects, some even avoided going into the surgery if he was in a mood and went elsewhere including MM. If Des ever found out he used to bar some customers.

He is an extreemly good veterinary surgeon but evidently does have as it was put to me, a suspect bedside manner at times.

I used his services on many occassions and always found him to be very approachable and open on a wide range of subjects, unfortunately this was not everyones experience.

I've been waiting for one of 'The Experts' to deliver a sermon like this for some time now...
Paul Wheeler is a 'regular' when he has something to say and a lot listen for the obvious...

Fegan says " of factual information from proper sources "
so from whom...???...not the N.G.F or The Recorder or The Catching Pen...

but the 1st half of the article Wayne is his expression of what he really thinks of 'us'

" The Internet is a bit like a Delhi slum, inhabited by millions, full of squalor, congestion and oozing a flithy polluted discharge.
Yet within this precint abounds stories of enterprise, education, hope and success as incredible as any witnessed in the developed world.
The Delhi slums and their inhabitants are as inportant to life of the city as is oxygen.
So with our lives, take the internet away for a weekend and most of us are beginning to suffocate...the younger you are, the faster you succumb.
Most of us have been lucky enough to have been born in Australia, or find it early in our lives.
Our natural attitude to slum dwellers is one of antipathy and I must say I am no different to that.
It is certainly not on my holiday list at tis time.
Cramped accommadation, along with high crime and disease, are not usually boxes travel agents like to tick.
These slum citizens do not ask to be given the life they have, but the majority accept it and like any of us, work their way towards a better one.
The virtual world, like the slum, is as yet uncivilized and largely unpoliced.
Apart from the vilest crimes, few in authority any any interest in the goings on in the ethersphere.
Anarchy reigns and often the one who shouts the loudest has the most influence.
What is being shouted does not have to be true because the consequences for untruths are negligible.
Whethe rit football, polictics or even greyhound racing, the internet has given expression to a deluge of armchair experts. "

I read his article every week to digest what he has to say about that weeks topic...I log on to 'greyhound sites' for same...

Dr Fegan, I find your 'message' this week highly insulting and distasteful...but we do live in a country that for all it's faults allows you to express your opinion publicly...as we also do here...

Between Wayne and myself we got all the article posted within the first half dozen postings...so I don't know why someone had a go about only half the story being posted...

As has been posted by those that do use him...he is a very good greyhound vet...but...as I posted which was 'backed up' by Dan & Sue...

" but the 1st half of the article Wayne is his expression of what he really thinks of 'us' "...this diatribe was totally uncalled for...

I bet he wished he never penned his piece, but then it now gives everyone a good picture, similar to those who support him.

Read my first post...1st sentence...

"I've been waiting for one of 'The Experts' to deliver a sermon like this for some time now..."

We know there are some( maybe the majority ) of people 'out there' who detest these sites...it's just the way in which we were put in the same basket as slum dwellers from Dehli...I quote "{The virtual world, like the slum,"

End of...

I personally have no real problem with the article perse, Des is purely putting forth his own personal opinion (freedom of speech, etc), perhaps he might have gone slightly overboard in his metaphoric like analagy, and in some people's eyes he definitely has, but in essence all he really is saying is that in his opinion obtaining information off the web in certain cases may be dangerous (a little knowledge is a dangerous thing).

Some might say, is it totally wise to "bite", or perhaps in this case "nip", the hand that "feeds" you? In truth, how many people will alter their ways simply because of the article? I personally don't think many will - Mountains and Molehills?

I think most have recognized the guys point, and through experience seen it for what it is. How many people have been given wrong advice or ripped off by incompetent or just plain inexperienced vets not prepared to accept that their is often better solutions which cost little or nothing.
