I have a bitch who has 8 two week old pups. Thought she was developing mastitis so took her to a vet. She had a temperature so put on a course of Amoxyclav. Would this cause puppies to develope diahorrea. And is there anything i should be worried about. Any help would be appreciated.

Brett, this can happen, as antibiotics can cause diarrhoea in adult dogs, too. They would be getting some of the a/b through her milk. If they look well, contented, and are feeding well, this should clear up when she finishes her course. This has happened to us once or twice in litters we have whelped, and the pups have all been ok. Keep an eye on them, and make sure it clears up after her a/bs have finished. Also I wouldn't worm them until their motions are normal again. How long was the bitch's course ?

Thanks Carol, her course is 10 days. I dont think its mastitis but 1 nipple looks like its been eaten away a bit. Wormed pups yesterday and all still puting on weight and look well enough. 6 of the 8 have cracked the 1kg mark.
