Hi all I have a dog with a knob the size of a mandarin on his elbow.

It was there upon return from breakin facility.

Like a pressure sore/sack. Asked vet about it some time ago he said it was the dogs natural response to lying on hard ground to provide padding and he said it should go once provided with a softer place to sleep.

I originally drained a lot of blood out of it and kept coming back.
Had him with a trainer who drained lazered and injected it with anti inflammatory iced and it went away. But trainer said it came back just resently.

Dog is back home trialled great today but would love to see how much quicker he could go with out it anyone have personal experience with the same problem.

Seems now it is manly solid soft stuff not blood.

Paul, it can often be a small tear in a shoulder muscle, with blood draining down and collecting at the elbow. It will recur unless the injury is located and fixed.
Does he have a track leg as well, by any chance ?

High carol no track leg have had the shoulder checked for tears before nothing. That was my first thought also that it was blood from a tear.
Rich have tried anti biotics before also, a friend just gave me a tip to use phlegmon so I am going to give that a go.

He said it has worked on the same thing twice the size.
I will let anyone interested now it goes.

Thanks guys and gals

Paul,

More likely BURSITIS. Your VET is correct.

It is a little sack of fluid, probably a reaction to a very tiny fragment of bone having been knocked off when flopping down on to a hard surface.

I had a dog who ran fine with it, used to drain it before he ran, even did a TR.
Have known others as well, dogs run with no problem, although the sack of fluid will generally re-appear afterwards and it can take some considerable time before it stops happening.

John, my hubby has cleared up a few like this for other trainers, and from his experience, it has always been a tear in a shoulder muscle draining down.
