Hi all
I have a 9 year old retired greyhound bitch at home.Few days ago she was chewing on a treat and dropped it and yelped.Never thought much of it.next day she did it again.Took her to vets 27 to look at teeth and was told she needed teeth out.Next day in vets had 4 teeth out 250 quid and told to come back 4 days later to make sure they're healing well.Bitch was yelping when eating her tea.Back to vets who said she,d noticed her jaw didn't open as far as it should( think she mentioned the word ping jaw?). She then checked her ears with a contraption ( don't know the name) and she yelped again.Vet gave her 2 injections 37 and said I had 2 choices head x ray 200 or injection everyday for 5 days 100.Has anyone had anything like this or an opinion on what choice is best?
Thanks in advance

In fact, despite the prices, if this was my dog I'd go for an X-ray to find underlying cause. Generally I do want a proper diagnosis first, to avoid any treatment, not matching the problem. There are some cases you can not wait with treatment, but as you describe the situation, I'd want to see.

Any chance, to get a second opinion by another Vet?

What are the injections ? Your bitch will be very sore and some greyhounds are extremely sensitive so would need sometime for surgery to heal. If no better once healed then you need a vet to find the cause. Further injections if you don't know the problem are pointless unless they are maybe anti inflammatories and/or painkillers. I would also get a second opinion from a greyhound vet who would normally be a little cheaper and the best of luck with her.

Marc, there are a couple of other things that may cause her symptoms. While chewing, she may have sustained a slight dislocation of one of her temporomandibular joints, or jaw bones. This would cause her pain, without being very obvious to see.
She could also have her first and second cervical vertebrae slightly out of alignment, and this often causes pain around the head, while eating, and showing apparently sore ears. Both of these things can be fixed, if either is the problem here, but you have to have a very skilled manipulator to correct the problem. Good luck.
