PURE GUM turpentine only...hardware store

Rub it on with a cotton ball [gloves] or apply with a SOFT toothbrush, don't overdo the rubbing or it will blister severely and the dog will go apeshit!

3 days on, 3 days off, I'd advise you walk the dog around for 10 - 15 minutes after applying to take their mind off it....it "tickles" a bit!!

Josh forget about that crap and use one of many products on the market that will do just as good a job .

Why people insist on painting that crap on and watching there dog go through a shit load of discomfort is beyond me .

Josh or you can get yourself some zheng gu shui and DMSO mix 50/50 3 days on 3 days off paint on with a toothbrush .
DO NOT RACE WITH DMSO ON YOUR DOG but you can apply zheng gu shui 100% right up to the race without any problems and you can apply zheng gu shui on the days you have off with the DMSO ..

DMSO helps the zheng gu shui absorb so much better and you will be surprised with the results ...

If you are in Victoria then I can help you locate what you need but you can go to ebay and purchase zheng gu shui there and DMSO can be picked up from a Vet or Greyhound Horse supply place ..

The Turps idea was old school and its hard to change the ways many have been taught and there is no changing there minds on this subject and it's like blistering ...I just Don't get it when we have so many products that can do the job if not better than Turps and Iodine for Blistering ......OLD HABITS DIE HARD ..

This is only MY OPINION ...Josh

Never had any luck with ZGS, and the withholding period on DMSO is quite long........but the brine and gum spirit works REALLY well.

Yes it "burns" a bit (no worse than you icing a sprained ankle though)....and it won't blister the skin like iodine (unless you overdo it)...

Josh, I agree with Kevin. It can make a horrible mess of the skin.
We have had brilliant success with the ZGS. We use it straight, and don't mix it with anything. If you can't get it, check out the classifieds in Oz under animal nutrition. I bought 4 bottles from them the other day, and it's the right one if you need it for bones. Doesn't swab, doesn't hurt them, and doesn't burn the skin. Good luck.

Your in Ballarat, have a talk to a GROUP 1 winning Ballarat trainer/muscleman Darren Murray who also recommends and uses the Gum Turpentine/Butcher's Brine linament, and has done so for decades. IT WORKS!!!! And don't worry about that "old School" crap, another word for that is EXPERIENCED!!!!

Howard, I wouldn't ever put a dog through that again, and it causes a lot of discomfort for the poor dog, no matter whether you are a group winning trainer or not. That has no relevance at all.
ZGS works too, and a lot of good trainers use it.

Mark I find this to be untrue ....Yes it "burns" a bit (no worse than you icing a sprained ankle though).

Ok then put some on your balls and then tell me it feels like ice.

I bet you will be going for the ice once it kicks in BUT DON'T WORRY IT WON'T HURT FOR LONG .

I'm glad you think ZGS is great, personally I think it is useless!!

Well, we will have to agree to disagree then, Howard, as we, and plenty of others, have found it brilliant.

You know that saying "opinions are like *********, everyone's got one.

And as we, and plenty of others have found the Gum Turpentine/Butcher's brine mix is brilliant.

Carole as you know we have some of the best creams jells oils at our disposal with a huge array of contents designed to help with the healing far better than that hard core cheap ass stuff like turps and Iodine .

Maybe if people did a bit more research with the latest products on the market then they would then see the the forest through the trees.

The crazy thing about this is you can get better results from other products than you would ever get from Turps and Brine and without the PAIN ...IMO
