cracked heel or fracture... how serious is this type of injury?

If by saying heel injury, you actually mean hock injury - can be very serious but an x-ray should be done to determine the injury - no good guessing.

Well then as far as I know that is the sesamoid bone and ligaments, still would advise an x-ray no good taking what people tell you, an x-ray will give you exactly what is wrong - up to you now.
