Hi,
From my understanding, bitches usually come on at 9 or 12 months.
I have a bitch who has had 3 seasons in 9 months. She is 2 years old now.
She broke in sensationally, then straight after break in she had her first season. So we spelled her naturally for 3 weeks. Then whilst back in work she came on the second time which was 3 months after the first season.
Since her first season her performance has dropped dramatically.
Has anyone come across this before? I'm stumped! Any info would be appreciated.
thanks Adam

Adam, don't forget that they have quite a long milk period afterwards, which will dramatically affect her form, if run during this time.

You make a valid point Carole. I'm interested in why her cycle is so frequent. Or, is this a common occurrence?

Adam, can't help you with her unusual time frame, but the milk period can last a long time, so it would just about run into her next season, which could probably be the cause of her poor form.

Adam, The frequency might be due to the fact that the first "season" was a "phantom" season. They can come on after that in a few months and produce a full blown season.
One possibility.

Hi Michael, She bleed heavily on all 3 seasons. Wouldn't that indicate that the were proper seasons and not a phantom?

Yes, it would Adam. Have you had a vet's opinion about a possible hormone problem ?

Usually, a phantom has a shorter duration of bleeding...just my experience with it.
As I said, its just one possibility.
The other is she might want some children...;)
