Our brood bitch had 9 pups all were strong and healthy and on level par size wise .Now one has fallen behind extremely weak.we have taken her into the house, she is hungry and is eating and minutes later the food is coming back up in a slimey Mucas .she is about 5 weeks old now the rest of the pups are twice the size and flying around.

she is very weak but trying to eat but can't keep it down as soon as she gets sick she goes back and eats again.

Anyone ever witness this or have advice.

She has been to the vet and got a shot of vitamin b.

Thanks

Dayne, did your vet take a stool sample to check under the microscope ? Pups can get a variety of problems, such as coccidiosis, parvo, etc., even a very bad roundworm problem, which can block the gut, if there are enough of them. Is she drinking enough, and does she have any diarrhoea ? I would seek more information and seek another vet's opinion, ASAP.

Hi Dayne
We had a pup recently do the same thing eat then vomit straight away.
It was found by doing an exray with dye they the pup had an esophageal balloon or mega esophagus. Basically the esophagus forms a ballon before it drops through the diaphragm so in a nutshell the food cant get to the gut and the pup vomits almost immediatly
Unfortunately if it is this its not good news most pups dont survive.
On rare occasions it does rectify you can try the following
Feed the pup liquid type food only .food that will slide and doesnt go down in a lump
Elevate the food so the pups head is above its body
ask the vet to do an exray with dye they give the pup a drink of this milky stuff then exray straight away it will show any sort of blockage
Rule out any bacterial or viral infections
Im really sorry but this is a 1 in 1000 condition and from what you have said its exactly the same as what happened to my boy same age.

Good luck

It could be gastric reflux.
We had pup years sgo that had this and had to get a liquid that they use on human babies called reflux ( we had to get a script here in ozz)
We gave the pup this and fed meals in small amounts but more often.
She came good as she got older and was no problem latter on.We also gave the pup a paste made bt Troy called Nutapet which is a concentrated vitm and mineral supplement in a tube. Picks them up great. Best of luck.

Dayne I guess your have wormed them because the others are all good! Just check that its not roundworm like Carol says, I had one just lately that was full of worms and had the same symptons and I had wormed her her at 2 weeks ! Gave her a stronger dose and it seems to have worked and she is catching up with the other pups now..Good luck
