Water Diabetes in Greyhounds The most common treatment for diabetes insipidus is desmopressin acetate, a medication that helps to increase water reabsorption in the kidney. It is available as an intranasal spray or oral tablet. Desmopressin acetate is usually given two to three times daily.

Excess sugar in the blood is excreted by the kidneys into the urine and drags water along with it. In this case, excessive urination can cause excessive thirst in dogs. Does dry dog food have a lot of salt in it? Many dog foods, in particular dry kibble, contain a very high salt content which makes it palatable for your dog but extremely unhealthy. The recommended salt allowance in dry dog food for adult dogs is 0.07% but most dry dog food contains 0.1-0.6% sodium. Why is my dog drinking lots of water and licking paws? If you suspect that your dog is dehydrated, seek veterinary attention immediately. What does it mean when a dog drinks water excessively? Hi Robyn ,never second-guess water diabetes.Take the dog to the vets get a full blood profile done.& a specific gravity test. These tests will tell the vet how the dog's kidneys are operating and what treatment is required.
