poor marcus clarke you must be in the dog house now that paul hennessy sorted out the derby ,with the able assistance of martin lanney.Seems funny that all the trainers you listed who DID NOT use martin lanny ,were not on the podium?

and as for kevin lewis ,papers never bulled a cow!! ie,all the qualifications in the world do not make a top class manipulator, and it is total nonsence to suggest otherwise.

also agree with justin hale re tony collins in loughrea, he is the king in many respects,as his working brief re a dog is more extensive, and he can detect very obscure injurys in a dog ,and recommend a treatment regime .

Hi Laurence
Just for your reference on the 20-12-11 I was at a small resting/breeding kennel to recheck a A3 dog which is now top open class. A gentleman asked me to have a look at a pup that just arrived from Ireland. That blue pup had four bad injuries and three minor injuries,I quoted to the gentleman there is lenghts in this dog, he then shown a stud book with a 29.14 Shelbourne.I was shocked because I knew this would be a very good dog and the treatments would have been carried out by the kennel,on my work sheet he was called Bluey.
Last sunday I receivied a phone call to say it was AP, I have no doubt the dog was at the right place at the right time, if not he may have ended as a minor open racer so please do not knock qualifications.
Sadley I did not see his litter brother as he had already been moved on.
Regards
Kevin

What an interesting subject and it,s one of the most important skills a trainer should carry in his kit alongside being able to get his dog fit without going thru the process of getting another to check for injuries...
Manipulation and pain walk hand in hand the one that does this to an animal should be put on the short list of sackings immediately.
I have used these types where the dog is restrained on a table/standing with a tight muzzle on to stop it from biting the manipulator ...that was in the early days when age and knowledge were at a minimum and that,s where I will begin...
I have been doing and practicing Physio work since I was in my junior days of under 18 football/League ...we were taught by our ambulance man to rub and to palpatate muscles before, during and after training we were educated that prevention was the best cure and that with fitness and rubbing/palpatating the muscles that injuries could be kept to a minimum ...
I 1st became involved with dogs back in 1969 when I use to go around a little with my father inlaw...he use to take me to a manipulator where I took great interest in watching dogs get rubbed down while 2 blokes held the legs and the dog was restrained on a table by the collar with a tight leather muzzle on and boy when that old man went to work the screaming and growling those dogs done while I was there was unbelievable but that was the norm back then and only a few were doing it,it was the only way to get the dogs checked out. When I got my 1st dog even I took him there to be checked and manipulated and that was the 1st I heard of a muscle out/out of place ...a few years later I asked this question to a very prominent Racehorse/dog vet he told me not to be so ridiculous
Injuries can be prevented by rubbing and palpatation with heat but it must be done in a very subtle way a dog in trauma while being checked is bloody cruel and if a muscle man is being cruel to your dog ...find another

Qualifications do not indicate ability Kevin, but at least the qualified person has made the effort ,and the fruits of their labour is proof of their ABILITY,rather than their qualifications. i once had a very serious back injury and suffered for at least 10 years from intermittened pain.

then i invested 40 on two evening sessions with a physio and eureka he cured me to a 99% level, fundimentally now pain free,

not alone did he sort out that problem but he went through my muscular system and identified 2 more old injuries and freed up the knotted fibres.

i was gobsmacked.!!

i had been going around for years with a curved back from pain.eliminated in less than one hours work

dogs are no different and the bigger they become the worse the problem, and some breeds are PRONE to bone problems as are people.

i know of a family who have bone problems and it can be traced back generations, their joints keep slipping out and the bonemen make a good living sorting them out.

a gentle warm up before exercise,ie one mile brisk walk with a dog before a gallop saves a lot of injury, but practice and theory not always compatable
