can any one help me with a corn on my greyhounds pad. i dont want it dug out or cut,it started with a black dot in the middle of his pad and on hard standing he would try and not put his paw down, on grass he walked and ran about no problem. i got told to use tablets from holland and barret for this called thuja. these seemed to work but the the area were the corn is has gone very hard and he is back to holding his paw up on hard standing ground. some one else said to have that toe cut off. bit drastic. please help me make his life more comfortable. thanks mick..

try using a caustic pen from pharmacy dab on for about 3 days and cover with corn plaster, worked for me. Hope this helps.

I had the problem with one of ours, Try using Bazoka cream. good for warts, corns and Varokas. bave the area 1st in warm diluted antiseptic, then rub the cream only on the corn. do this twice a day, until cleared. It worked on our boy and he had three at the time

My lad,Ranger has suffered with a corn,he went to vets twice, but both times it came back within 2 weeks,i used Bazuka, which was good but it did not take the core out,it's a long job.Now i sand it down every couple of days,he's walking better,i know when it plays up he puts his paw on my knee.
I was told that if you get the toe amputated there is no guarentee it will not return on another pad.It looks to me as if the corn is dying as he is walking better than he has for a long time.
Hope you find a cure, love to know the resukts.
Don't waste your money at the vet,it will come back.
Kathy

Michael, type in corns in the second little search box and there is some extra information there which you may also find helpful.

I sanded down a corn on Tigger's pad then bandaged some Neem Oil on it, changed it every time we came back from a walk and it went after about 3 weeks and hasn't come back.

best wishes

Michael
there are some excellent threads on this subject on file
type in corns or warts in search box
to summarise the only complete cure for corns that is certain to work and they fall out after about ten days the entire growth roots and all is to freeze the wart with intense cold
the vet needs to have a flask of liquid nitrogen same as container
for holding straws of semen for AI
it is completely painless and absolutely guarnteed to work
you just apply the nitrogen to affected area for 10 minutes and as warts are a living growth the intense cold kills them
after a week they turn black and then then loosen their grip and fall out in a few more days
most vets havent got nitrogen and like in your case make a big deal of treating them
your vet will probably get a couple of hundred off you to treat your dog and will keep owners coming back on repeat visits to get as much as possible out of a problem that should take 10 minutes
surgically removed warts never get all the roots and in a short time they grow back again
more vet visits
when they are freezed the growth completely dies and every scrap falls out never to re grow

Thomas

My vet tried liquid nitrogen. It certainly hurt the dog and the corn is still there. Wish it was as easy as you say. Still looking for alternatives.

Sean
when it is being applied it stings a little
the only way that your dogs corn hasnt fallen out or died off is that it wasnt applied for long enough
for a week you will see no diffrence then it slowly goes black and after about 14 days falls out

just to put things straight this vet is not my vet and if freezing does work i dont think the vet would of spent 20 years trying to find some thing that does work. as for hundreds of pounds you are well out the 1st treatment was 36 and so is the 2nd and 3rd.and he also said if it dont work i can have my money back but so far hesaid he has a 100% sucsess rate on this new treatment working. i was with my dog the whole time and he didnt winge once and we all know greyhounds are the biggest babies out there.
