Had seven pups ear branded this week and 5 of the chips had moved, most under the neck, a couple down to the shoulder which is a worry.

Sounds like it's time to write to your states authority and demand that something be done...when will 'it' be the cause of a 'major' medical prob to a very valuable dog(I know they all are)

We had the board out last Tuesday and Craig Easey did 3 random dogs and NOT ONE of them was were they were placed originally! All 3 had moved down to the monkey muscle area.

So today, we checked another litter and one of the chips is in the friggin butt of his tail!

They say it wont cause any problem but what sort of cheap crap chips are they using? I did the course years ago and I have got 8 year old broods that I did to complete my course that still have the chips in the shoulder area exactly where they were placed.

Pretty weird to me...

I have had problems with 3 from 4 chips with dogs having 2 chips registered.... am honestly more concerned with what an ultrasound machine over a chip would do myself...

Craig is going to report the 3 he did...not sure what the outcome will be but the vets I have spoken to have said not to worry.

The dog with the chip down near his tailbone was only checked today mate...I will call the board in the morning and let you know what they say.

ROB
I will see Craig at the dogs tomorrow & let him know that all 7 seven of mine are in behind the Pin muscle
Craig was the person that inserted these micro chips(Now let me say that I am in no way blaming CRAIG for the chips moving)..

Peter, No way is Craig to blame. I have done the course myself and can assure you that he is doing them perfectly.

I reckon it has something to do with the fact that the ISO chips they are using are not hooking on for greyhounds for some reason....the fact that the dogs are being done and then reared with non stop galloping is making these chips migrate rather than staying put. The funny thing is that there are 2 Victorian bitches here that are perfect...chips exactly in place.

Maybe the chips are a cheap and nasty Taiwanese chips which are noted as being ordinary in quality...I don't know. Time will tell but how a chip ended up near the tail has got me!

But I can assure you that Craig does a fine job.

hel1o peter have you found that any of your greyhounds have had any negative issues such as running off from the slipped chips in the nearside pin muscle.
regards dale

I would like to blame the chips BUT I think it is more a case off severe lack of leg speed that is there problem.LOL

This may have been covered before but was wondering if an ultrasound machine going over a chip would (A) damage the chip and (B) hurt the dog?
Cheers
Rich.

I was contacted today by the ear brander from GRNSW and i asked him if i could supply the more expensive chip myself that does not move and was told this was not allowed by greyhound New South Wales.

I was informed that the chips they use now were supposedly better but the ear brander said they are still moving.

I was wondering how people were finding the new micro chipping and if they are still moving if so i most likely going to challenge Greyhounds Nsw on welfare grounds to either supply a chip that wont move or challenge their policy in making microchipping manadatory when they cant guarantee the welfare of my greyhounds?

I have a dog he was the best of the litter he still does faster split times than the rest but when he hits the bend he can't go round it had him with three vets and two muscle men could find nothing wrong stopped the dog warden one day and asked him to scan for the micro chip the chip had moved down his shoulder he told me not to get any more greyhounds chipped as they were having a lot of complaints about them
