Wasn't there some talk by GRNSW a while ago to trial this at more tracks. What are peoples opinion of using it?

Look jack, I may be a little biased , a few years ago I had a short course dog that on his own & sometimes with other dogs could run near track record times. But over time it developed further with him, he would stroll to the front effortlessly then ease until the others caught up to him & then go again.obviously that was going to be a problem in races as he'd get a failure to persue ticket & not wanting to put him down I searched for an option. This option surfaced in the form of sending him to New Zealand. Now I know the class level was a bit different to hear but he went over there a maiden, with three seconds in a row, each of which he could've won if fair dinkum & ended up winning twenty nine races with thirty odd placings & nearly $60,000 in prize money. Follow on lure gave him a career he would not have had here. By the way he never once got a ticket or any trouble over there.

Yes Gawler SA still has it, not sure on Strathalbyn SA, but believe it is also used in Mount Gambier SA as well. Should be used wider in the country IMO.

Unfortunately some people see it as catering for non chasers & or fighters, I see it as a way for some dogs to have a career on the track & not more dogs being euthenased while perfectly healthy.

Michael, many years ago at sandown they had a new lure system called the BRAMICH LURE, it made very little noise when running & they had to put a loud speaker near so the dogs could hear it & not miss the start because of the lack of noise. I was at sandown one night when they first started using it at meetings & it crashed into the old fella on the front catching pen gate almost severing his leg. They held up the meeting so the air ambulance could treat the poor bugger. One of the worst things I've ever seen.

Sounds like a dog like lawrences benefits so that's a good thing. Is it a large cost to implement? I don't see how it just encourages nonnies. On a side note did your dog chase hard all the way during solo trials Lawrence.

jack, his name was callahan, he solo trialled one satouday morning at traralgon in 4.82 first split & 16.74 overall. this was 2012 & he was an unraced maiden at the time. he did the same at cranbourne one monday night after the twilight meeting, the free for all winner ran 9.60 & 17.78, callahan went 9.62 & 17.79, still unraced. it wasnt till we took him to warragul that we seen some worrying signs, we trialled him with a bitch of ours, who funnily enough would eventually race as MISS MUM, he fell out of boxes 4 lengths behind her & he came out of first turn 4lengths in front. it wasnt till the next week at warragul that someone suggested we put him in box 1 where the camera is to see what he was doing in boxes. he had his head turned to the right, looking for the other dogs.

Cheers Lawrence - am interested if or how you fixed the box work as have a maiden bitch that sounds similar to your dog. If against other dogs always misses the jump but does good solo times.

jack, when he went solo it wasnt noticeable, when the lids opened he would jump sixth or seventh then go, he possessed super pace & would be vying for the lead or in front for first sectional time. we never really fixed it, his record showed his absolute best was from boxes 6, 7 or 8 because from out wide he would be looking inwards & therefore also see the lure. from inside was worse because hed be looking right for the others therefore not seeing the lure, his main problem was hed get to the front so easily & then ease a bit then go again when they caught up, he won most of his races by under a length. he never ran the times in races that he did solo because of this.

The day the FOL or loop lure comes into Victoria is the day I will give the dogs away.

All it does is encourage people to run non chasers and chasers not to chase. It's bad enuf as it is with so many nonies getting off so lightly, pulling up and bludging in races, without attracting more of the same or worse.

Imagine owners/trainers who put all that work, time and money into their dogs at the breakers & eduacting them after that, getting them to chase hard, then front up against a fighter in a race (as a young dog) who ruins their chance in the race or worse, ruins that pup forever.

Besides it will never happen in Vic. The punters will flee the sport in droves and the pools will decrease to almost nothing and that's something Victoria can ill afford atm as GRV derives almost 90% of it's income from the TAB.

Which race was that at Ballarat Michael ? Didn't see a meeting programed for last Sat.

Thanks Lawrence - sounds like my bitch. At a trial on sunday with only 1 other dog she jumped a length behind as usual - at first turn was 2-3 lengths infront then slowed to have some competition over the last 50. She's only had 3 starts - hope she grows out of it. Cheers.

Jack, one thing I forgot to mention, the trainer in New Zealand my bloke went to also eventually put blinkers on him. Not sure what did the most good, blinkers or follow on lure but whatever, he ended up consistently in FFA class & had a very good career which he wouldn't have had here. By the way jack what area are you living, Victoria? If so are you able to go to warragul to trial & perhaps put her in box 1 to see what she's doing in the boxes?
