Just a thought for those against the FOL for breeding reasons. Perhaps the current lure system combined with live baiting is causing more damage to the breed. How many stud dogs that have been used in last decade were not natural chasers and were only able to achieve their potential through live baiting.
What's that got to do with the lure system? Of course live baiting has hidden certain traits in non-chasers, same as drugs do and same as the FOL will do. The lure has nothing to do with it because, as we're all having drummed into us, the FOL makes some dogs (some nonnies, not all) chase harder, it doesn't make hard chasing dogs chase harder.
I must admit I got a laugh from Sandro's comment that they're not nonnies, they're dogs with tickets.

The FOL gives EVERY dog a reward for their effort, not a gate put in their path to STOP them chasing and maybe a mauling in the pen.

Could someone explain what exactly a 'follow on lure' is and how it differs from the current lure used in most Australian tracks please?

Thanks Jamie. So instead of the lure disappearing the dogs get to see it stop. Since they are muzzled I'm assuming they just stand by the lure until caught?
Just found this which explains all. The slow motion at the end of the race gives us a closer look at the lure.

Lynda they let let them run without the muzzle so they can bite it when they catch it

That's an arm trial. FOL races are still muzzled.

Any of you interstate owners and trainers who have raced on the FOL in Qld or S.A should submit your opinion and reason why the FOL is a greyhound welfare saviour.

Queenslanders already know that the FOL would be saving the racing lives of 3 out of every 4 greyhounds currently being suspended, but Racing Qld refuse to get their head out of the sand.

All Racing Qld are doing is making sure the animal liberation movement continue to lambaste the greyhound code while the greyhound board are as useful as tits on a bull.

To all Queensland industry participants.
Please delay signing and returning the recently distributed Stat. Dec. issued by Racing Queensland. It doesn't have to be returned until 19th March 2015 at the latest and the UQGA is seeking legal advice on this subject on behalf of all Queensland industry participants.

In my opinion only the minority of trainers (mainly the one's big on baiting) are against the FOL because they know their dog/s are going to run through a brick wall and therefore is a possibility of injury running onto/into the lure. The difference between using a squeaker & live baiting is that with the squeaker the greyhounds see it as a game as such, but if they are blooded they are "serious".

Another thing the 'controlling' "bodies" need to come down hard on is the use of anti-inflam's & therefore pain killers. And then you can mark my words, you will see a lot more of the honest trainers winning more of the races. Including over the top group 1 $$$ such as the Australian Cup etc, considering the poultry amount spent on "so called" animal welfare. And to top this all off, the powers are getting paid good $$$ to 'oversee' the industry. You know what is/isn't going on when the CEO of Greyhounds Australasia's answer to the reporters question about more stringent property inspections was something along the lines of there are "a lot" of properties way out in the countryside & only a certain amount of stewards to do so.
