Normally the 2 night a week schedule resumes in March.

Rumours abound of a major shortage of dogs as owners have been hit with a relentless series of disincentives and with absolutely no good news whatsoever times are really tough.
I understand the thinking from some quarters that if "WE" cancel race meetings "WE" can save a lot of money but kill the feeder tracks off and you kill the Industry.

No sign of it coming back.
Longford has 2 Monday nights coming but there for 2 Friday nights lost to frost recently.
Some tracks alike longford have had close on a 100 dogs officially trialling in recent weeks with anticipation of return to 2 nights a week. But with no sign of this at longford and other feeder tracks the future looks bleak with yet again dogs only getting on a card every 6 weeks and further devaluing them.
When is this board going to realise they are killing the sport.

Hi Martin i have 4 race dogs and i cant get a race for them, one has been entered for a race since 18th of Dec and was let go out of time has since requalified and will probably be let go out of time again along with my three other dogs. Realistically it just depends who you are and where you race.

In my opinion there is no shortage of dogs only a shortage of suitable races. If you have a middle grade sprinter your chances of getting a race is virtually nil and on the rare occasion that you do get a race it will be won in A1/A2 time. What do you with a dog that doesn't get 525yards? If there is a shortage of dogs surely the answer is to increase prize money, in particular for 2nd and 3rd places thereby making it more financially viable to keep a dog racing. This could easily be financed by reducing the fantastic salaries paid to some executives and board members at the IGB! After all if owners and trainers are expected to accept a lower income by the reduction of prize money then it is only right that should apply at the IGB as well. I also wonder do racing managers and other employees receive a full salary when their track only operates once per week?

it is same in uk i personly dont think its lack of dogs you will find most track keep dogs for bags meetings what i dont agree with is some tracks will have 5 dog races and have some reserves comeon race managers forget about having reserve dogs put then in a race if there is space after all the hound doesnt know what time its doing give the punters dogs to bet on

Hi Clive. If you have a sprinter and dog is low grade you might as well forget it...Cut your losses. In fact if you have any dog lower than A4 forget it, just had 1 dog A7..race every 6 week if lucky. Stortage of dogs will come as nobody is breeding anything right now. It will just take some time before the effect will show. ote="Clive Padwick"]

Did try enter that A7 dog in waterford, same story....the dog is gone now so problem fixed. To keep a dog race ready for 6 weeks and then get to wait 6 weeks again is not worth the effort.
