Whats people thoughts of how the industrys going in NSW and QLD.
Ive heard rumours leading stud dogs services are down and I can only go on whats been happening around here Northern NSW and QLD. It getting harder to sell pups aswell. Ive heard so many people talking about leaving the industry.

This is the time both GRNSW and QLDRacing need to take the bulls by the horns. Also the different organisations such as GBOTA that have taken thier eye of the ball instead of being there in relation to participants there there only as track managers. ITS A DISGRACE THE WAY THIS INDUSTRY IS HEADED

Corey,

Things are very , very bad for the ( puppy ) market. You almost struggle to give pups away at this time.

We don`t blame investors. Simply no reason to think about being around in 2 years time. So why would anyone buy a puppy now.

Too many jaw flappin enquiry`s . Too much bad news. Too little prize money. No forward planning . Too tiny re-building budget for tracks .

Plus, those with knowledge in the game being Wilfully scared out of the game by Bully boy stewards imposing unfair penalties.

So that is the state of the game in Qld / Northern NSW.

We have pups for sale. No inquiry`s at all. Even the time wasters have given up !!!..Bless their cotton socks..lol...

So, If i was intending to breed, I simply would refrain..

Elsie.

The biggest problems in Qld arise from the lack of administration and the lack of any directives or representation as to what is happening. The biggest thorn is going to be the reduction of appearance money from $40 a starter down to $15. Hardly worth walking up the steps at AP to collect. However what this reduction will mean is that the bulk of owners/trainers who rely on the $40 a starter to reimburse outlays are going to slowly exit the industry. There was never any clear thinking by the board of RQ when this reduction was announced. The cutback from $40 to $15 is a loss of $125 per race to o/t's might not seem a lot bit it is enough to drive people out of the industry and not replace their dogs when the time comes. The board and RQ would have been better advised to decrease say first prize by $125 which is not a great deal when you are talking about $1300 to $4900 depending on where you race. Even with a $125 reduction its still a big hunk more than what we raced for a few months ago but would still allow the $40 to be paid to unplaced runners. One would think that RQ is actually trying to bleed the industry to death, this decision and its ramifications would amplify this comment. It would be good to see GBOTA and UGA ask RQ to rethink this policy change and reinstate the $40, at least that gives the majority of owners and trainers some hope for the future. As it stands its all doom and gloom with the media having a party and the industry slowly dying. An example is todays glaring headlines in the Brisbane Courier Mail where there have been 53 positive swabs in the last 3 years. The headline failed to say there were 10,300 swabs taken yet only 0.5% were positive and half of those were for bitches with elevated testosterone levels and when the recommended dose level is 0.25ml, its not hard to infringe.

Three related (and very pertinent) observations, in my opinion.

I have three Barcia Bale pups Nov 14 for sale, only one call (time waster)
My online sales in NSW are down with Qld sales way down, other states all good.
Qld sales are normally 20-30% of our total sales but Qld sales for April Currently 6%
I think industry nationally will eradicate severely next couple of years.
The good old days are gone.

I think within a year the industry will be cutting meetings due to a shortage of dogs. I'm keeping all my next litter because they won't fetch the right price. I just hope the prizemoney will at least be maintained.

I think the main reason for the state of our industry is the simple fact that over many years and also at present our administrators have bent over and supplied the Vaseline .
When is the last time that anyone can remember any of them standing up for our sport and at least put up some sort of a fight or argument in defence of our sport.
Now we have a new governing body and boy o boy is it a doozy,
RSPCA,POLICE ,AND GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES, AS FAR AS I CAN SEE NOT ONE OF THESE HAS THE WELL BEING OF GREYHOUNDS AT HEART.

It makes it really hard to make long term plans or commitment. We have a bitch that we want to race another 12 mnths or so and then breed. How can anyone make plans for the future in this climate?

I live in QLD but breed & race in Victoria & currently have litters still on their mum, pups ,breakins, pretrainers, racers, brood bitches, bitches in pup, 10 various straws stored plus own stud dog Dyna Steal who i only purchased in the last 3 months.

Firstly pups have always been hard to sell & if you had a litter that sold quickly you are seriously wandering why you didn't keep more of them yourself but yes it will be harder in the future but it shouldn't be for the owner who breeds his race bitch to race her litters as nothing has changed except that the training ranks have had a massive purge to the extent that i've looked at Albion Park fields & seen races where i have not recognized a single trainer in a race. That can be good for some.
I will continue to breed from my bitches keep the pups i want & sell probably at heavily discounted prices what i don't want to keep.
I am sure all stud dogs are suffering from limited enquires but as i previously mentioned having just aquired Dyna Steal i am not regreting that decision & still can't beleive my luck in owning him.
There will always be tomorrow, it will never be today or yesterday as it will be a day in it's own right with it's own uniquenesses & challenges. Our industry will suffer many changes as it has done so in the past both good and bad.
Yes, what happened could have been handled a lot different but it is what it is, i have no doubt if the past was changeable the decision would have been different, but we know that's not possible & we have to live with the decisions of others.
Going forward life is simply, participants have to make a call to get out of the industry or stick with it & help make it the industry we want it to be something we are very proud of.

Jack this is half the problem why wouldn't you make a long term plan?? We have to weather the storm and come out the other side a bigger and better industry.

Our industry will be around for many more years. Every industry has there ups and downs.

I think most people would agree over the past few years it has been hard to sell pups, dogs but this will change.

I took a dog after it was meant to have been destroyed by it's owners and they wanted it destroyed in a not so legal way and I reported it to the stewards but nothing eventuated but after telling other racing participants about the incident and they had a shot at the stewards they now want to charge me for bringing the code into disrapute because they have coped some flak and now they have actually followed it up.
Why would anyone want to inject money and passion into somthing that smells like sh@t.
Not me I know that much.
I'm out because of medical reasons but the stewards and ruling authority's don't help greyhound racing and it's the third code I'll now go back to only because of the support of the participants in the other two codes.
In my opinion there is no bottom to greyhounds yet and it could be years before we hit it but I'm not spending 1 more cent or speaking one more word to support it.

Well Johnathon all I can suggest is do not let the door hit your bum on the way out! Things are difficult at the moment, but grandstanding like you have just done helps no one but those that want to close the sport down. Better you out IMO. Cheers.

Hellen it's people like you and your comments that make my statements so so valid.
Thanks for pointing it out to people.

this sport will never die, the ones that are so negative i say leave, if they drop travelling , trainers would still race dogs, and there would be full meeting, there more pups out there that will fill meeting for the next 4 to5 years and in that time there be enough pups to fill races for the next 4 TO 5 YEARS, johnathon he leaving the sport selling up every thing , it wont matter if the stewards put him out,

It won't die because it generates money but that's about it because if you talk to people in QLD there gutted.
Talk to Victorians and there still going along but as individuals not united.
Talk to WA people and a few owners are leaving the sport as well as people I know in NSW.
It won't stop but I'd like to see were it's improving because if you do a search on here it's years on complaints and the odd good news story and I didn't post one so I cannot be blamed for that.

Jonathan, didn't you say you won't be speaking any more on the topic? I'm not sure why you continue to partake in discussion. You've said your piece. Move along. Your type, with constant negativity isn't welcomed. The horses are calling ....

Guys you still have by far the best prize money in World greyhound racing, you wouldn't get out of bed for the UK winnings. I'm still investing in Aussie greys, you just need a good hound.

If you're not here to support then why are you here?! FFS. You're wasting everyone's time and energy with your scrawl ...
