After some advise,

I have 2 x 17 month old Cosmic Chief pups 1 x dog 1 x bitch that I breed and had professionally reared, they have been to the breakers but come back to the trainer not 100% chasing, they were with a professional trainer in Vic were they were reared and sent to a breaker but they couldn't do anymore with them so I have brought them home and I have played with them for a bit at home and they will bite on to the squeaker when teased but still cant get them going on the track.

Trialled this morning, both solo hand slips from in front of the 300mtr boxes, they both only went 200mtrs, dog eased really bad but kept going but the bitch stopped and went to the fence to play with other dogs standing around

Bitch has had a season, they have both had a spell from break in and been checked for injuries.

Any advise where I could send them in Vic, need someone who knows how to get them going in this day and age of not being able to use skins or anything that resembles a reward???

Still willing to keep trying as I have already spent a fortune breeding, rearing, breakers etc.

Henry give Mr Hewson grnsw a ring and he may be able to put you onto the new vet we have over here because they all seem to know everything about the breed, they are the ones who are putting the dogs life in danger.
The problem you have got is very hard to solve, take them if you can to the bush and let them see wild life running around so they become interested and try a drag, then go back to the arm.
You need to keep trying different things to get them keen.
After all the money you have spent on them you need a bit of good luck mate.

HENRY -- Might be best to " cut your losses " and try a couple more. Unfortunately your story is going to be echoed many times in the coming future. Some pups will take to the " Artificial Regime" and some will not. There will be a lot of dissapointments -- there was enough in the past when you could use a rabbit { dead } or animal skin.

Yes, Henry...welcome to the world of the ridiculous.

Can I ask...how well did the rest of the litter break in?

You could try the working dog Alliance - they got paid a heap of coin to report that greyhounds only need a squeaky toy and some synthetic that is not even in the shape of an animal and they will chase (maybe once or twice) . Unfortunately no one has told the dogs - I do know one thing and that is dogs aren't stupid. How the hell a rabbits pelt is illegal is beyond me but that's the rules.

My trainer use to slip his breakers behind another dog that came out of the boxes.
So they had a dog to chase. Of course you don't want something too quick or the breaker will lose interest.

I know,
Rabbits are vermin and are poisoned on properties around Aust everyday, they are left to die a terrible death in a hole where know one sees it so it must be ok...
GRV could create jobs for people to catch and euthanize them humanly tag or brand them with a particular brand and sell them to trial tracks/trainers to use, who then could argue regarding cruelty?

instead they governing bodies have just gone with the safe call.

That would be sensible Henry. The Greens and animal activists have the politicians bluffed. This garbage they call 'community expectations' is a load of garbage. It's the loud loonies not the general community, or I must live on Mars as anyone I talk to in the community thinks I'm joking when I tell them that a greyhound can't be trained on dead roadkill, they honestly don't believe me.

Were they all reared by the same Professional?

3 at one place and 5 at another these 2 were with the 5, 1 bitch out of the 5 didn't make the breakers as she went blind at 8 months and is now a pet.

I have checked these 2 no sign of blindness.

I suggest to you, Henry, that you will have to start again.
Hang in there.
IMO, they need to learn to be competitive with other experienced dogs...keen teachers.
With another dog(keen)short distance up the straight and on to a succulent piece of synthetic...lol.
Extend distances until they are covering 300m plus and chasing all the way with the KEEN dog.

Go to circle, short distance first WITH a keen dog...then on from there, but always with another dog.

Hope you succeed.
Good luck.

I believe that GRV and all national greyhound organisation should now bring into work a COURSING FIELDS .. Just like the field coursing that runs every week at the local Dog shows ..

OUR YOUNG PUPS NEED THIS FORM OF STIMULATION to help educate young pups from an early age .

Rob Britton made mention of it in his video .

So many breakers are now finding some pups running away from the lure and many are just not grabbing onto Fake synthetic fur .

Hence why i suggest each state adopt a program in some old footy or cricket oval somewhere anywhere and start allowing younger greyhounds the opportunity to naturally CHASE in a open field ..

Simple solution i think it is but it will take us many years to evolve our greyhounds into fake fur chases with no scent or sight you have no desire without desire you have no chase ...simple yes will they the PTB help us achieve good chasing greyhounds i very much doubt it ...

Even more simple, get petitions and coverage out there to the "WIDER COMMUNITY" (The ones supposedly shocked we use animal products...used to)and let them know this rule exists and what the ramifications are.
Present petitions and let them see community disbelief in what the community themselves reward their pets with.

I won't even go on with the rest of it...

Kevin - there's alot of space in the middle of tracks - always wondered why the space couldn't be grassed and used by participants, even just to let people free run their pups or as you said coarse pups on a lure.

Henry my two bobs worth. You say they bite on to your teaser ok. Buy your own arm.And ask track attendant to put your arm & teasers on as lure.

Robs video shows him releasing what i would presume was a (first go from breakers)pup, or a non chaser needing some work. Onto the finish on arm at geelong while his other two dogs that just competed where biting onto it to teach this pup the ropes.

One other theory i have is these lures they have on the arm at trial track are pretty big units.
Young pups might be intimidated buy something almost as big as them eg Another predator maybe?

I find for solo arm trials just a piece of rag well secured to arm so as not to end up all over the track does a better job of getting them interested.

Best of luck need patience and do rush them little at a time imho

I've recent had one who was reluctant to chase hard and into the pen. Took her to gosford trials for a few weeks straight and seeing the other dogs chase sparked her up. Kept taking her and now she goes berko at the sound of the lure start up and is going hard. Also I've had pups that baulk at the catching pen when put up the strait. Try them on a round trial track and have them finish on past the pen.
You can finish onto a rag on the arm nowadays surely?

Yeh, rearing establishments/educators don't seem to be included or in the radar when it comes welfare.
