Sorry, just thought that the WORLD'S RICHEST GREYHOUND RACE should have its own thread.

There should be celebrations all around Australia!
Can't think of a better way to make a statement that Greyhounds are moving on...
It is a MASSIVE announcement and you have to give credit when it's due...MAJOR step forward in the right direction.
It will ignite fresh interest in ownership, training, and the general public's interest.

Love the idea of the Masters race too.

Now all that needs to happen is the other states to climb on board with this idea and get their own major upgraded races going and all of a sudden, the sun begins to shine again.

Just waiting for QLD to announce a 2 MILLION DOLLAR SERIES! Lol.

Who would have thought, with all the negativity that has happened over the last 3 years, we would now be talking about a 1 MILLION DOLLAR dog race?

If this doesn't get the saliva going, nothing will.

To all the people who kept on breeding through all the negativity, you might just win yourself a cool Mil in the next year or so...GOOD LUCK.

I know there are some negatives with this but believe the positives far outweigh them.
EMBRACE the GOOD NEWS...it's been a loooong time coming!

This is a fantastic announcement for the industry.
While I was hoping to hear an adjustment to the inter-code agreement, which was signed off while the dinosaurs were still roaming the earth, this is the next best thing & we should be ALL embracing it.

Yes questions still need to be asked & answered..& corners need to be smoothed out here & there but in the meantime, let's stop all the negativity & start preparing those champs.

I disagree.

An increase of prize money across the board as well as looking after regional tracks is paramount.

It's a decision in the election year with GRNSW trying to match the Everest and Kossie that T'Breds have.

It's wrong, wrong, wrong. One winner !

Around 11 weeks to the final, and only 6 or 7 weeks until the heats start. To obtain maximum exposure the media blitz needs to start straight away.
Please GRNSW, don't stuff this up.

You need to look at the bigger picture Mark. This is simply a advertising and Marketing tool to promote the industry. Think of all the new money and participants this single race is going to bring to the industry. I have spoken to numerous people today who have said their phones have been off the hook from people wanting to buy a greyhound.

This is brilliant news and exactly what we needed. The regional tracks will undoubtedly benefit from this in the future, not to mention the best dogs in the country coming to tracks like Temora, Wagga ect. to compete in this race.

Like Micheal said, every single person involved in this industry should be celebrating this moment.

If you read the press release it raises a lot of questions.

1. How much are the entry fees?

2. If dogs have to be re-homed with GAP or equivalent at the end of their racing career does this mean that any greyhound that will be kept by their owner as a pet after they finish racing is ineligible?

3. Does it also mean any greyhound that will be used for breeding after their racing career is ineligible?

4. The draw states that "the Grand Final winner will receive $1 million for its owners". What about the trainer? This is probably just a typo but surely you get these things right before you release them.

I need to know the actual details and criteria before I am going to start celebrating.

While I applaud the idea, something smells of the hoped for righting of the shock results in the Orange bi election.
This Government will say anything to dupe the masses into
voting for them. Tread warily on this and any future hype, for when it comes to paying for "promises" made in an
election mode. is'nt it funny when the report comes out,
it invariably contains a paper about a shortfall in funding!
Before anyone says anything about positivity, remember they
sowed the minefield of doubt!

In response to Carly:

1. I believe by entry fee he's referring to the track entrance fee for the race meeting.

2. Per another article, greyhounds are still eligible if re-homed by owner or trainer.

3. No.

4. Typo, they couldn't care less what connections of the greyhound get the money. Purely a marketing stunt to entice more owners into the game.

Fantastic promotion that will generate interest and good publicity with the welfare rehoming proviso. Will drown out the greens and welfare brigade. If you look at Vlandys and the Everest it creates enormous interest. He brushes off welfare claims with his stock standard lines and rebuttals. We need positive jewels in the crown to refer to and the back up welfare line with rehoming helps improve perception for general public. They will see dogs being walked around their streets and know action is being taken.

1. GRNSW press release states "Mr Mestrov said that entry fees from every race in the event will include a donation to the GAP NSW program."

Note it says fees from every race and not every meeting. As there may be multiple heats run at a meeting this wording suggests there will be fees to enter into the race.

2. GRNSW press release states "As a condition of entry, participants must agree to re-home their dog into the Greyhounds as Pets program (GAP) or and equivalent program after its racing career."

I have heard other reports too but given it is their idea surely they would make sure their press release contained the correct information. I do not consider myself a 'program' when I keep my retired dogs.

3. Every source I have read said kept as a pet after racing. Now I agree that if a greyhound is a stud dog or a brood bitch after racing they are being kept as a pet but again I would like some clarification of this.

Maybe all of my concerns just stem from bad wording in the press release. However, given the exposure that this would get you would think that any press release would be checked and edited by a number of people to ensure that the wording was right before it went public.

Come in spinner

Mark, spot on. I do not reside in NSW however I would like to point out a few little issues. NOTE In an ELECTION YEAR!

1. 2 years ago this current government ACTUALLY banned Greyhound Racing in NSW, which, with the same rubbish information got Greyhound Racing banned in the ACT.

How many suffered mentally as a result with life savings poured into property and breeding all turned into valueless possession's.

But lets forget about that and move on.

Who resurrected Greyhound Racing? SFF, Ray Hadley, Paul Murray and the ORANGE BI ELECTION and many people in between. Notice GBOTA or GRNSW, what did they do again?

2. From afar I have noticed many meetings cancelled because of track conditions. Seems that welfare and track upgrades need to come first followed by fair prizemoney alignment and to rebuild what may have been run down because of the 12% out of the 22% made from betting on Greyhounds. At a guess this was a set up between the Government and Horse Racing Industry, seeing that V'Landys and Massara new about it (Banning) in April before well before it was announced.

Damage done. Breeding basically stopped. PAW said he reduced his breeding by 50%. Some of the Top Trainers moved to Victoria seeing the writing on the wall.

But lets forget about that and move on.

3. Where other states are promoting breeding(GRV's mantra was the overbreeding myth and had to address it by re introducing GOBIS under another name) and making it easy to breed with no fee's to get back the ground lost, your mob have put on restrictions(Puppy Bond) fee's etc.

But lets forget about that and move on.

What a con job, perfect for making people warm and fuzzy and forget how you got here in the first place.

Good luck

Also Adam, my understanding is that the club keeps the admission fees. Not sure GRNSW can tell them what to do with those fees. Again this makes it more likely it is referring to a fee to enter the race.
