I think a special word of praise for Ian fortune and Sarah Kinsella who were excellent in their coverage on rte Saturday night.
At least someone is backing our corner.

I see with the scratching of one of the finalists you don't have a reserve runner just run with vacant box. In Aus we would have the next two fastest qualified dogs waiting in the wings in reserve. Good luck to all involved hope it's a good night for you all.

I remember a five dog final at White City in 1975. Shock result with 25/1 winner as the hot favourite and clearly the fastest dog in the line up, Myrtown, expected to enjoy the extra room, failed to fire. Lenson looks a hot favourite but,.....

Maybe Kilmacdonagh will bridge the 20 year gap since the last Greyhound Bitch (Spring Time) won the Irish Greyhound Derby?

If bocko does his split and clock, he's the winner. A repeat of last two weeks and he's champ. That's why he's an 8/11 shot I suppose

So, so disappointing for the Jones family with the withdrawal of Our Surprise from the final, a great pity.

Very disappointing Kieran for Laurence, Brian and family. But they were looking after their dog, which is a credit to them.

No IGB representative available for comment is what the presenter told the TV viewers on the night of the Semi Final. This was an ideal opportunity for the IGB to have their say on live TV. "NO COMMENT" that is really defending the Sport of Greyhound Racing in Ireland.
This was a "LIVE" interview, an opportunity for the IGB to state their case to the General Public looking at the Derby Semi Finals.
You realize a serious amount of money is spent on sand every year. Many of you probably think all that sand goes to the race tracks. I wish to enlighten you, a large amount of tonnage goes to the IGB Board Room so the Directors have somewhere to bury their heads.
What a thundering disgrace the manner in which these so called representatives of Our Sport treat the people they are supposed to represent.
I'm told Half A Million Euro was spent on Travel expenses for the IGB in 2017.
There is one item I must comment on, Sarah Kinsella and Ian Fortune's display on the two Derby Programs. They did an excellent job, their knowledge of the dogs, breeding, track and their general comments was a credit to both. Its a great pity we don't have a program on the dogs on TV. We did have however a program that showcased the sport was too expensive for the IGB. Putting out this program was an education for the general public and on many many occasions when I spoke to people in Harolds Cross I would ask what brought you and your family to the dogs, the answer was we saw the program on the TV.
Perhaps to try and save the sport the IGB should cut back on travel expenses and use the funds to introduce "The World of Irish Greyhound Racing" on TV. We have the two presenters, Sarah and Ian. The film crews are still available to make programs.
The Sport/ Industry is in a serious state and Urgently requires a rescue package.
It was a great final unfortunately having only five runners was a loss to the punters and bookmakers. However to the owners and their family it was obviously a bitter disappointment.
