With the downturn in the industry mainly due to the virus situation, and the fear of infection being kept out of the city limits. Now the zoning of different areas, somewhat controversial to many with the allocation of designations to race, With some getting four tracks, while the hub of the industry resides in the lower hunter with two, and cannot accommodate the amount of nominations it receives. You hear of the possible reduction in certain prizemoney down the track, could lead to the expectation of a sell off! Are we already "dead" in the water! What's your thoughts!

Money talks Ron.
Mike "Bird-brain" was 5 years to early. Maybe he's still wheeling 'n' dealing behind closed doors.

Yes Steve, maybe a case of like rainwater over the mountains, and the proposed development of the Richmond track.

GBOTA have the lease-Lets see wether they have loyalty to their members if the push comes & stand up & push to return when the danger subsides.
They should at least be fighting for us to receive a rotation of Saturday prize money & feature races in the regions but neary a murmur on their members behalf.
Why are owners, trainers & some kennel staff the only ones losing income in NSW.
What I dont get is why havent the authorities approached the Govt with a view to get out of Wenty and in return they build a purpose built facility like the one proposed in Queensland then we would own something. The closer we get to the end of the lease the less bargaining power u have. Now Baird tried to thieve Wenty but now is the time to get out.

On second thoughts, I fail to see where the so called danger lies. With strict protocols being adhered to at other venues, and things seemingly running to schedule, the alarmist attitude towards Wenty Park seems baseless, and somewhat suspicious!

Since the Days of "Scott No Idea & Bill The Magnificent" the GBOTA has shown no loyalty to its members !!!!! They didn't even consult the members regarding the move too Wentworth Park !!!!

Thats what I'm saying Mark-Gbota seem to be only existing so that the directors ,management & staff have perks & jobs. At the moment their site only has quotes of statements & releases by gwic & grnsw. I suppose their at home watching tv on full wages. Do I sound disillusioned.

As far as WP returning, now would be the perfect opportunity to install a 600m start if it can be done and if they want to stay there
For our premier track not to have a 600m start when every other city track in Australia has one is, apart from being inadequate to develop middle and distance greyhounds, its plain embarrassing

I agree with the 600m start Sandro. However, common sense alerts us to the fact that greyhounds wont be operating out of Wentworth Park after the lease expires in 2027.
A state government asset worth hundreds of million dollars remaining in place to prop an industry that draws two to three hundred people a week?? What ever improvements are carried out at Wenty will be lost come 2027.
The ideal scenario is to negotiate an exit plan NOW and with the compensation received by leaving Wenty early, create a centre of excellence elsewhere. The major hurdle to this happening of course are the availability of money. The funds required to fight covid-19 virus probably means the money can is going to be empty and of course, greyhounds are not a priority.
Agree with you Ray, but its been time to get out of Wentworth Park, 10 years ago
We are still there with no 600m start
The industry in 2018 spent copious amounts on improving the WP track and its surrounds in preparation for the Million Dollar Chase
Why didn't we get out then?
Putting in a 600m chute until 2027 seems a relatively small expenditure given what was spent in the past
But, will wee see it, probably not?
Will we be compensated to get out of Wenty? Who knows?
Its the biggest stalemate in politics in Australia

Well let's see what unfolds with the NRL, it's chief was pushed for a reason ???? Im tipping a return is imminent and if that happens i cannot see how the NSW Government can prevent a swift return to Wentworth Park !!!!!

Sandro,
"Putting in a 600m chute until 2027 seems a relatively small expenditure given what was spent in the past".
The last more or less formal words I saw said that drainage systems below the surface were a barrier. Not a word since.
In any event, to avoid the worst of bend start issues it would be necessary to construct a shute out towards the old back entrance, and NOT put it on the track proper.
They could do this at the same time as they install 350m-plus boxes and eliminate the 280m races for all time.

Why the preoccupation with owning a site ? Blacktown, Liverpool & Penrith councils have many under utilised sites and would be glad to get some additional revenue out of those sites

Metrov said recently that putting in 600m boxes would interfere with the entrance to the school they put in very quietly. Do GBOTA get rent for the school?

Grant, I imagine the Trust would get rent for the very small school, which I think is only temporary as they are in portables, but Malcolm S might know more.
