Plenty of talent still emerges in a troubled industry.

The Bendigo 425m record has just been busted by Jim Zarr Dashian from the Ennis camp - but only just. It ran 23.371 or two thousandths quicker than Flynn ran over a year ago. The track did seem to be on the quick side but Bendigo often tricks you that way.

It brings up two interesting points. First, I have long asserted that using three decimal places for race times is a statistical anomaly. Only Victoria does it. The typical greyhound race has far too many tiny variables to warrant that sort of forensic treatment. It's smaller than a sliver of sweat on the nostril, or probably the width of the Finishlynx line on the screen.

Second, in an amazing coincidence both Jim Zarr Dashian (Kinloch Brae x Kim Zarr Dashian) and the previous record holder, Flynn, share the same sire (Kinloch Brae x Jubilation). I have no idea whether that is important or not.

Incidentally, that Bendigo record was once held by Golden Easter Egg winner Slater.
