GABLE DODGE
2010 Greyhound Hall of Fame Inductee

what was he like as a stud dog

Gable Dodge, the red son of Wigwam Wag and CJ Ima Bahama, was whelped in December of 1995 and was bred and owned by Harlyn and Janna Goebel of Three Rivers, Tex. As a 78-pound youngster, he quickly began capturing top class races, winning 16. Grade A races at the Gulf track in 1977. He also finished third in the Ye Royal Race, was a finalist in the Gordon Wood Memorial, and captured the Au Revoir.

The next year, Gable Dodge won 10 more Grade A races at Gulf, giving him 26 top-grade wins in his career before an injury forced his retirement. At one point, Gable Dodge had captured 11 straight races at Gulf, the last three wins by 12, 10, and 12 lengths, respectively.

With his winning racing record, Gable Dodge soon became the most popular stud in the country. By 2001, he was sixth in the sire standings, moving up to third in 2002 and second in 2003. In 2004, he captured his first of three Sire Standing championships. Only a few Greyhounds have accomplished such an achievement; Gable Dodge joins the elite group of Rocker Mac*, Cactus Lonesome, Downing, Unruly, Dutch Bahama, HBs Commander and Molotov. All but one have been inducted into the Greyhound Hall of Fame.

Seven of Gable Dodges offspring became All-Americans, which ties him for the title of most by any sire. They include Gable Oscar in 2001, Gable Vermilion and Dodgem By Design in 2002, Jawa Leonas Best in 2003, Ethereal Force in 2004, Bobs Skeet in 2006, and Afleet Alex in 2007. Bobs Skeet also captured the coveted National Greyhound Associations 2006 Rural Rube award.

One of Gable Dodges first champions was Stans Boy Flyer, an outstanding racer who then produced a pair of two-time All Americans in Ozzie The Man in 2005 and 2006, and Penny Candy in 2008 and 2009. Stans Boy also produced one of the best litters of the decade with Touche Baby; the litter included stake winners Brady Thomas and Hometown Boy.Another Gable Dodge puppy, Gable Acadia, became the mother of All-America Flying Mancini. Other outstanding Gable Dodge offspring include Bobs Streak and Bobs Wal (littermates of Bobs Skeet), Lady Dodge, Gable Calliope, Lonesome Cry, Dotties Dynamo, Slatex Striker, Jawa Whelton, Bs OGrady, Cherry Baby, Kelsos Fusileer, Kiowa Easy Elsie, Matts Gulf, Regall Rosario, USS Raceway and Review, WSs Pistachio, Monterrey Gotile, Jimi Hendrix, Camerlengo, DLT White Knight, Bohemian Calyso, USS San Juan, and Bohemian Dione.

Thanks to frozen insemination, Gable Dodge sired more U.S.-whelped puppies (11,608 offspring through 2008) than any other Greyhound in history. His impact on future Greyhound generations continues with four sons listed among the Top 10 sires on the 2009 Sire Standings (Top Six Tracks). They include Dodgem By Design at first, Lonesome Cry at third, Gable Oscar at eighth, and Stans Boy Flyer at tenth. Gable Dodge himself still ranks fifth on that list; thus, half of the Top 10 sires are from the Gable Dodge family.
