Heard last night that the IGB have now come up with the wonderful idea of how to hit us all in our pockets. What do you think of this idea, either increase the entry fee from 10 to 20 or reduce the prize money and I suppose this will include the SIS racing. Its not bad enough that we have all had to look after our dogs and yes we were given 2 per day, but that was only for the dogs that were in their time, but that will be taken back ten fold. It has cost all of us, and yet the board were on full pay through out the lock down. They are only in their jobs purely because of us who supply the dogs. Just shows you what little regard they have for us. This would not happen in the horse racing industry.

Carole it was not from the igb. Received this in a text yesterday anybody know whats going on? Is it real.. Unfortunately the present Covid 19 pandemic has created new trading issues for the greyhound industry. Racing behind closed doors albeit better than no racing impacts dramatically on our gate receipts, tote revenue, restaurants and bar revenues, sponsorship to name only a few. With this in mind I have been asked to ascertain from the greyhound community their view on either 1 . Reduce Prizemoney to compensate in some small way to the the shortfall in revenue or 2. Increase race entry fee I would like to know what our members think regards Damian
I'm not defending any proposed prize money cuts but the reality of the situation is that most, if not all of these meetings will be run at a significant loss. You are also wrong saying that it wouldn't happen horse racing because it already has EXTERNAL LINKEXTERNAL LINK I don't know your set up but for me racing is a hobby and I feel no sense of entitlement that the board pay for my pastime.
With the looming recession there will be massive cutbacks to the Horse and Greyhound fund. We will have to make the best of it going forward and this will need all aspects of the industry pulling together .
People need to be more positive, the amount of times I hear 'The game is gone ' "Not what it was' is no good to anyone. The game isn't gone it has just changed. We all need to get behind it now more than ever. I can't wait to get back racing I wish you all the best, enjoy your sport.

This is the second article this publication has produced in the recent past on our industry. At no point does it to my knowledge mention the financial return the state receives from greyhound racing here through employment, taxes, vat and duty on fuel (68 cent) per litre to list a few areas of note. I have even seen, elsewhere the state grant being referred to a a "gift"well if it is its the gift that keeps on giving a return to the state.
Anyway almost 7,000 active dogs on the books. How confusing is that for those who believe the RTE broadcast was factually correct.

Paul, Adrian was one of the dirty quartet. The rot was introduced by Dick O' Sullivan and Neilan followed by Phil Meaney, who got rid of the Geraldine the then CEO. Mr. Meaney a Carlow man the introduced Bully Brady. Bully being one of the most hated men ever to set foot in Carlow. He was THE MAN who closed the beet/sugar factories in Carlow. Two years later Brussels issued its findings into the sugar debacle. Bully was found to have no authority to close the factories, the factories were closed illegally. Mr. Meaney brought him in as a replacement for the Lady CEO who refused to go in to Harolds Cross in the muddle of the night and strip all equipment from the Track, Tote, Kitchens and Restaurants. We were left with no venue for the 14th February. All those with restaurant booking received an explanation when they arrived at the gate to celebrate their Valentines Night. Owners and Trainers are now going to feel the brunt of the Corona Virus. It doesn't matter whether its a Reduction in Prize money or an Increase in race Entry Fees the Greyhound Owner & Trainer will carry the can. Has anyone asked if the Board members will forego their Salaries and Expenses from the 1st January for at least two years?. To help the industry in its hour of need. A show of good faith towards the hard pressed Greyhound Owners and Trainers. This is not a full time job they all have other incomes. There is two chances these fine body of Board members will part with a Euro. Slim and None. The Greyhound people are on their knees and this bunch want to pick their pockets. The time is now for the GOBA members and the Federation to Stand up and be Counted. Now is the time your members need support. Where has 3/4 of the 16,800,000 Disappeared to when there was no racing since the 25 of March? Whats left has to last until October's budget. Where is the remainder of the monies from the sale of Harold's Cross after the Bank was paid off? NO works have taken place in Shelbourne Park with the exeception of the access steps they were painted in the Longford colours. I assume as a tribute to another Stadia closed by the IGB. The time has come for action, call upon your GOBA'S to get together with the Federation and put a plan of action in place Immediately.

So, you think its a better deal here to get 3.50 per week per dog as opposed to Irelands approx 12.50 in Sterling?
Paul we only got paid for dogs that were actually active racers. Correct me if Im wrong but in the Uk werent you paid for all registered dogs. I have 20 dogs retired saplings and pups but only got paid for 2 so 18 still had to be looked after. Now entrance fee has gone up to 15 but prize money stays same for non SIS. Entrance fee stays the same for SIS but a vast reduction in prize money. Working it out A3 and A4 down 65 A5 and A6 down 50 and A6 and A7 down 30. So I think owners have a right to complain, especially when the board have other jobs as well but we are always left with the short end of the stick.

Certain politicians struggle to grasp the contribution the racing industry's make to the economy. I presume they are beginning to see the light.

The prize money dipping is, I agree 100% a disgrace.
As for retirees as soon as mine call it a day I pay for them to go into the homing scheme.
The initial discussion was about how much per day/ week in Ireland, you get 4 times as much and for sure the cost of a loaf or whatever in Ireland isnt 4 times what it is in England
Cheers

AS THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM OWNERS, TRAINERS OR THE FEDERATION I ASSUME EVERYONE IS HAPPY WITH THE NEW CHARGES SET OUT BY THE IGB THEREFORE NEITHER MYSELF OR THE DGOBA WILL HAVE ANY FURTHER COMMENT ON THE SUBJECT.
