I noticed each state is holding their own sprint & distance heats this week. Can Simon Told Helen claim the Australian title or is there other sprinters with hopes ? Over the staying trip the title looks wide wide open to me. Any thoughts folks ?

Steve,

There will be no overall Sprint or Distance Final per se, each State will conduct Heats and in turn a State Final*, however instead of competing for an Australasian Final, the winners of each states Sprint final will be, rightly or wrongly, awarded direct entry into the TAB Million Dollar Chase semi-finals at Wentworth Park on October 9th.

* due to insufficient nominations Victoria will not have heats/Final over the distance, it is just a straight out race this Thursday.

As for whether Simon Told Helen could/would have claimed the title is now but a moot point, but his clash with Shima Shine and Jax Bale on Thursday should be a great watch.

G'day Steve, the stayers race could throw up an a suprise,i think it will come down to who gets the advantage at box rise,if MH begins as well as he can & leads he wins ( i expect that he will improve 3 len from his first 700 back from a short break ),but in saying that,if BC begins well off the 8 & SB is within 3 len of these two going past the post the first time,it will be a very intresting last 400 mtrs, but Mr H for for me.
The Sprint Final will be a great race to watch, but again,it will come down to who begins best between SS,STH,if they begin on terms with each other,we are in for one hell of two way tussle turning for home,& i don't underestimate Christo who is very strong who ,if he is within 4 len of the two leaders off the top turn, could run over the top of them,he is a great Sandown dog & can give the race a big shake with even luck in the final,BO is the other obvious chance, but i think she is at her best when she can find the lead very early,& i just can't see that happening. I am going to go out on a limb here & have something on Christo because he will be probably be around the 8-1 mark in final,& that to me represents great E/W value,Zipping Geek & Good Odds Harada also will undoubtedly push the Vic's to there limits,it should be a mouth watering final.

After watching the Victorian distance final I will say that Sunset Bourbski although she ran 2nd ,is improving with each start over the longs.
