I have attended the Irish Greyhound Derby final since 1969 to 2019 inclusive, will 2020 be the first year to break that sequence ? Does anyone else have a longer sequence than I have ?

Newinn Taylors Derby!
Newinn Taylor only began barely on terms with them as Pestana was best to begin, but no exploding from traps...which allowed Ballymac Wild to hold the rails into the bend as Ballymac Cooper tried to make a line of three...as Newinn Taylor mister exceptional pace to round them all 4 wide rounding the first ben.
As a result 4 into 1 doesnt go and while Newinn Taylor cleared them to go on into the back with only a 2 length lead....Pestana suffered the worst of the first turn challenge falling and 6 became 5
Newinn Taylor lengthened down the back with a 3 length lead over Ballymac Cooper with all of a sudden the emergence of Meenagh Miracle whom has a devastating finish on her...the bitch quickly rounded up Newinn Taylor by the final bend, to only make a mess of trying to go around the wide running Taylor who then held off the bitch the line to win the Irish Derby by about 1/2 a length.
What a contest...what a series Bewinn Taylor Derby Champion and well earned!
I can't help but be impressed with Newinn Taylor's win ,& Ballymac Wild as well, they just seem to be peaking at the right time to win the final, whilst Pestana is obviously the dog to beat,he might just not cross as easily in his q/f,but more importantly,is there any further improvement left in him to win the Derby ??,I will go out on a limb here & say,I don't think there is. Newinn Taylor is drawn very well in the Q/F & should win again,& Ballymac Wild has drawn a bit sticky, but is very smart & is open to further improvement,& i think one of these two will win the Derby. Who else has a prediction ? Cheers All.
I do hope Pestana hasn't done any harm to himself,he is one of the most classiest greyhounds i have ever watched. What a fantastic race.

David...don't be so sensitive mate, picking holes you say ,fair bloody dinkum, greyhound racing throws up all sorts of suprises & outcomes, especially so ,from the starting boxes ( or traps as you guys call them ),for the record David,Pestana is one of the very best beginners i have ever seen in over 35 years of involvement in greyhound racing,( & i have seen some of the very very best here in Australia ),but in saying that,i have also seen those same greyhounds, abslolutely get it all wrong out of the boxes & invaribly ,when it really counts in Group 1 Finals,& Pestana has a terrible trait of cutting anything drawn inside him,in half when he jumps,& what i am saying is,that one of these nights,it may cost him dearly, especially if something drawn on his inside, begins on terms with him & either holds it's ground,or,wants to push off,my opinion David is all about what could & can happen in racing,& it dont matter if they are maidens or Champions, again mate, definitely not "picking holes ". Cheers mate.

Its the nature of life.
There will always be someone looking to pick holes in a Champion.
Of course anything can happen, but Pestana is still the most likely winner.
He is the best drawn dog in the quarter finals as he will have an empty track in front of him the whole way to the bend on Saturday night.
Every enthusiast would love to see him in Trap 1 in the Final and the brilliant Newinn Taylor in Trap 6.
Only disappointment is that we wont be there to see it!

Did you watch it live Daryl?
Same wasnt fair to see him fall, but what a contest into the first bend!
Yeah,i sure did mate,it was ashame to see him come down, had the 4 dogs that went into the first turn together had managed to get into the back straight cleanly,it would have been a very very intresting finish,i doubt if there would have been a length or so between the four of them at the finish mate,a fantastic series,& the Consolation was great too. Looking forward to next years series already !.

Ahh shit,David ,thats rotten luck, condolences to his connections & hopefully Pestana recovers & can either return to the track or go into retirement & go onto stud duties,he was always heading in that direction eventually, that really is ashame.

What a shame...hopefully he makes a full recovery. The dog has nothing left to prove either way. No doubt theyll flock to him at stud.
Good stuff Daryl...true...wasnt it epic into the first bend. Some effort for Taylor to clear them 4 wide. He has the hallmarks of a champion in the making off that run!
I forgot to congratulate you Darren,well done mate,hope you had a nice collect,( i missed that price,got the shits,& didn't back him,lol).

Thanks., I did and also took him into nice size doubles with Hard Style Rico and Tommy Shelby to win the Melbourne Cup. But, theyre just nice bonus
Been following him from day dot. When I discovered his pedigree been a keen observer of his, hoping he could land the produce stakes and Derby. As I get a chance to replicate his pedigree in my line and of course you want to see the pedigree produce G1s.
Good onya mate, good luck with the last legs,& abslolutely right re wanting to see Group wins & races against bloodlines similar to your'es,mine & everyone elses.
