A couple of excellent first start winners for Tommy Shelby x Wheatacre pups in the Maiden heats at Albion Park today. Both chased their arse off and the second dog really ran time.

87 Tommy Shelby $44,835 14 49 16 7 7 33%
I've been lookng at these Greyhound Recorder Stats for decades. Only the very very best start their careers with percentages over 30%. Tommy will be a super sire on that basis. Time will tell.

Prepare yourselves, Tommy is about to explode. Huge reports on his progeny. I see one of his pups won the Maiden Final at Sandown tonight. The rocket is about to launch. Get on board.

I notice that Tommy had a 1-2-3 in the Cannington Puppy Classic, all from the West on Violet litter. Importantly, they are winning over 600m. Breaking in a very nice one at the moment.

I think Tommy Shelby just might take over from FB as my new sire obsession. Honestly he is going to be huge as a sire.

You'll need a strong brood for Koblenz, he wasn't as strong as Tommy Shelby. If I'd put a squib bitch to him I'd be concerned they couldn't get past 400m.

It's obviously a long way before Tommy Shelby can be put in Fernando bales league. But agree 100% he's started red hot and looks to be producing strength

I remember the same being said about Head Honcho lol Koblenz fended off many a challenger in the run to the finish line during his career, that imo is a very desirable trait !

Both dogs were very much in the mould of Fernando Bale himself.
They could show outstanding pace for the 2 sections and also fight hard to get to the lead if they missed the start and still have enough strength to fight off Group Class finishers at the end of 520m
I will be surprised if both of them don't turn out a top 10 sire with the opportunity received
Tommy Shelby has started very well, so nothing wrong with him and offers alternative lines through his dam

It's exciting to see Tommy Shelby, Sennachie, Out Of Range, My Redeemer, Whiskey Riot, West On Augie etc. all successfully kicking goals. When McInerney, Koblenz, Ferdinand Boy, Wow, Ebby Jet Power, Fernando Mick etc. pups hit the scene too it will cement Fernando Bales legacy even further
Currently Tommy Shelby and Sennachie are 2 of the most promising sires to eventually take Fernando Bales spot on top

Fernando missed the kick 5 times in his career but still settled in the top 4 on each occasion , he never won any of these races ? Whether its not liking being crowded or not enough strength is irrelevant. But I wouldnt be classifying it in the same mould as Tommy koblenz or Wow for that matter . Another outside or random example to this label or traits described would be Feral Franky . These dogs could be mid field and make their swerving and dodging runs with guts and real strength .
Fernando was the best weve seen and a complete freak , but he did have the 1 crack in his armour , the above Ive stated was it . If my statement and observation is incorrect and he did have strength or a hard fight desire as suggested , he would have atleast won 1 of those 5 missed starts .
Fernando was an out n out fast blast em sprinter like no other !
A lot of speed dogs can't make ground from past 3rd place
I don't think that is unusual
He missed the start in a Melbourne Cup final and had to drive hard through the pack to get to the lead to only get run down by another million dollar earner in Dyna Double One, who later on both both Victorian city track 600m track records
Those 2 beat the 3rd dog in that final by 5 lengths
If you are going crucify him on that performance, because he didn't win the race, then I think you are being a bit hard on him
He also came from 3rd early and ran around the leaders to win the Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic
He also came from 4th early and getting smashed from the 7 box to win the National Derby
But mostly he led to win his races with brilliant early pace
Koblenz only came from behind twice to win a race , once from 2nd place and once from 3rd place, but in 5th grade races , still a great dog when in front though
Tommy Shelby could definitely come from 4th place in Group class races to win
No one is crucifying anyone ? I think you need to calm down hey .
As always I watch gather info and make my assessment on facts ? The facts are he missed the kick 5 times , still settled close enough on each occasion yet didnt post 1 win ?
Im not crucifying him , just noting something thats interesting to me in him directly and or his pups , genes etc .
Its my opinion and Poeple want to get offended or take it as crucifying him when Ive already suggested hes the best weve seen . Then carry on as you wish
I just wouldnt be labelling his stardom or race pattern as the same as the dogs youve mentioned and they come no where near what Fernando was able to produce !
I just call see and describe it slightly different with as usual evidence to agree with it .
No angst needed ?

Anyway.........back to Tommy.
There was never really any doubt he'd produce the goods in the breeding caper.
He was a top notch race track performer, and comes from a family of outstanding racers, i.e. his half-brother Jungle Deuce won over $650,000 prize money.
I reckon Jungle Deuce will also do the family proud, if not even better, with his offspring.
Sorry Micheal , no offence intended to Shelby ! Fingers crossed for his future offspring and breeders , he sure does have it all in place to succeed and without doubt will be on many breeders radars 100%
I love his race traits , consistent , honest as they come and very well traveled winning in all racing states available except for SA , not many achieve this feat ! Multiple GRP 1 winner .. just no trec ? 29.27 at wenty will do me but . A lovely 32kg to boot too !
Will be doing this in near future
