A Cat-astrophe averted, but I'm bruised all over.

Yesterday evening I had a very sobering interaction with a cat that thought he was indestructible.
A young girl (Crystal & Alfie) and her small son have just moved in nea...r me. She doesnt know anybody, and also owns a cross-bred Mastiff girl who needs some socialisation. I met her over the field where we have been throwing a ball for all the dogs, last week and this. On our way back to our respective homes we pass along a footpath to the rear of my bungalow. All was going well, with just Fonzie off the lead, and my other two, plus Millie the Mastiff on theirs. I see one of the regular cats so I put Fonzie back on his lead whereupon the cat went through the hedge so problem I thought was over.
Then Crystal said there is another one. Rambo Cat as it turned out, who was blocking the path with no intention of moving. So there was I with three over excited hounds and one very excited Mastiff, facing off a cat who thought the odds were very fair, and four dogs who intended to show pussy he was very much mistaken. The cat arched his back, and it was at this point I realised just how much age had caught up with me. My dogs surged forward, my feet left the ground and all I could think of was (apart from landing in dog shit of course) I have to hold on as they dragged me unceremoniously across the ground in the general direction of tabby who had at last decided (Thankfully) that discretion was the better part of valour and disappeared at a great rate of knots. There was I a pale imitation of the man I had been just a few minutes before as everything that could hurt was certainly hurting. I stayed prone for what seemed an eternity before very gingerly I wearily struggled to my feet.
So Im at home now sinking a glass of wine as my faculties gradually return and my blood pressure recedes. What I have learnt from this episode is at one time I could have held three greyhounds quite comfortably. However, what I see in the mirror every morning is a frail old bugger, and do you know what, that bloody mirror doesnt lie. I am now officially a frail old bugger

Not the first time a wild pussy has been responsible for the downfall of a once strong man.

Good story Bryan

Reading this,
I got to think about a forum thread anywhere many years ago, when I was scolded for writing, that a Greyhound owner needs to be able to hold his Greyhound from time to time - they where suggested being feathers on the lead ALL time :)

Hope you have come over all bruises, Brian.
Anyway - I did like the good read - tnx for sharing ;)
