Was just wondering if anyone knows. Has the Industry looked into this potential reemployment of Greys or just focused on re-homing?
In my day we didn't have PTSD dogs, but they do these days & no doubt there would be many other conditions where a Grey may be able for use as a Assistance dog.
I understand the costs for something like this would potentially be much larger than what GAP currently does but it'd get the BREED out into the public in a favorable way

Also Zac - I was reading about dogs visiting old peoples homes and how the older residents enjoyed and looked forward to these dog visits. I'd be happy to do something like this once a week. Don't know how to go about it but it would be a positive if we could get them out in the public more.
If you're willing to offer up your time in that way approach your local council & inform them what you have in mind. They'd probably be able to point you in the right direction. Be it old peoples homes, other disabilities or children groups etc etc. A Local Hospital if you have one good be another willing participant.

Thanks for the advise Zac I will follow it up. Have a 6 yr. Old bitch that is bomb proof and would be perfect for this type of thing.
Perhaps a call to these people would be a good idea EXTERNAL LINK

hi guys we have been donating greyhounds to become hospital dogs for awhile now and there is a process they use to pick the right pup. they bring other dogs in to see if the greyhound pup will be compatible they virtually get the pick of the litter and it takes a few hours before they pick wich one they think will make it and they are then put through obedience school and so on so I don't think its as easy as just using a retired dog but I do know what you are trying to say.
