Hi guys,
I have a couple of rehomed greyhounds and I'm trying to find some info about my old boy. I'm hoping someone where might be able to find out his lineage and birthday. Really, any info would be great!

What I know:
His tattoos are illegible. If it's possible to post pictures here, I will, but truly, every number/letter could be 5 or 6 different things. We *think* his right ear is 85G, which would indicate that he was born in August 2005, but that doesn't seem to match up with other info. Left ear could be anything with round shaped numbers/letters.

He was surrendered to Hawkesbury Pound (Sydney area) in late July 2006. 28 July, from memory.
Surrendered to the pound by a man who called him 'Buster'.
Said he was a couple of years old and had raced a few times with a little success. Said he got along well with his kid(s).
He is a large (38kg) black and white mantle marked dog.
He was a young dog when surrendered to the pound. He would have been no more than 3, so year of birth no earlier than 2003.

I'm really hoping that some of this very sparse info rings a bell with someone - maybe his former owner could be a member here? "Buster" (now Tommy) has brought us more joy and love that I could ever have imagined. I'd love to know how old he really is, what is his date of birth and breeding, race history, old photos... if anyone can help, you'll have my undying gratitude!

Thanks,
Emma

I'm not sure how this posted twice... sorry :/

Another detail - he had/has a funky toenail on the outer toe on his right front paw. It grows upwards rather than outwards. Always has done since we've had him. He also has high-set toes which someone once referred to as Irish toes. He used to snap his nails off every now and then when he was younger and more inclined to fang around at top speed.

Emma, I would suggest you contact Greyhound Racing NSW . The dog comes from the era before micro-chips . Back then, All the colour , Markings & features of the greyhound was recorded on Paper. Not even they might still have details of dogs from so long ago.

Yet, Dont give up. Take a DNA sample from your dog via your vet, Send that to Greyhounds Australasia & with luck, Your boy may have come from good lines.

Really, they are your only chances of finding out the details.

Might cost a few dollars, Might be slow, Yet to end your search, Well worth it.

Good luck.

Elsie.

Hello Emma,

Thank you for taking Tommy into your life.

The dates provided in your post would not be accurate if he has raced, as it would make him less than a year old.

Unless the person in question happens to see this thread Elsies suggestion would be the only practical way of going about it. As both parents would have DNA registered & hopefully be able to identify the mothers name.

Although he finished of in Sydney, He could have been born anywhere in the Country. Whelpings for Aug '05 has 277 litters registered on Fasttrack.

As already mentioned Give GA a call and explain what you have in mind they'll be able to tell if it's possible and costs involved.

Wish you all the best!

Zak

take a close up photo of the ear markings and send them in to GRNSW.

They may be more familiar with the numbers and be able to read them.

Thank you for all your replies. I will send all the info and tattoo photos I have to the suggested bodies and have a look into DNA testing.
