I had so many kind replies to my thread about Doc's death CLICK HERE that I wanted to let you all know that I've just taken in a lovely new chap - the very handsome Ken (Boomtown Ken).

I picked him up from Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare yesterday, and for a dog whos probably never been in a house before hes been sussing everything out very quickly, mastering the stairs in minutes and totally unfazed by the TV, washing machine etc. Eats like a horse, walks nicely on the lead around the neighbourhood, and was also totally unfazed by being left on his own while I went out for half an hour this morning.

So far there has only been ohmihgawdwhathaveidone moment that was yesterday afternoon, when he plunged not once but twice into the garden pond AFTER I had given him a bath, presumably his version of a dirty protest!

Early days still but hopefully he'll continue to settle in well and meanwhile I've added some photos to his pedigree: CLICK HERE

That chin of Ken's is propped up on a stuffy already, and there's mischief in those eyes. You have a boy with quite a personality, Clare!

Thanks guys! And Brian, how nice to hear from Ken's breeder! You're right, he does have a lovely temperament - everyone at WGW said they would miss him, because he was such a happy chap and had been a delight to care for. He's continuing to settle in really well - I looked round from the desk yesterday afternoon and found him on his back with all four legs in the air for the first time, always a good indication that a greyhound's feeling relaxed.

Not long back on the internet as my old computer packed in a few weeks ago so have only just saw your news Clare. Fantastic that Ken appears to have settled in quickly - I know sometimes it can take a while. We've had our pair for two and a half years now and they know they're on to a good thing. Tina ( Dealinwithdanger ) is such a placid girl and immediately settled in to a routine , whereas Brett ( Bonville Brett ) took a little while longer to understand house rules. Some say once you had had a Greyhound that you will never choose another breed ....... looks like you've well been bitten by the bug. May many wonderful years lay ahead for you and Ken.

Thanks Douglas! It's a big change in environment for him of course and unsurprisingly we have had the odd 'teething problem' - a sheepskin cushion was evidently especially tempting and ended up in pieces! But he's a smart dog and I can see him growing in confidence by the day, in affection for me too. Greyhounds are the most wonderful breed of dog, I agree.

Clare, I to took my last hound from Wimbledon Welfare, last December 6th. Ciara (Ciara's Misty) who had been in the Kennel system for over 10 years. She is now 11. You would think that after such a long time she would find it hard to settle. Well apart from the initial settling in she has been a star. She is off the lead now and socialising with all other breeds. There is no doubt the greyhound is king of the dogs to give a home too and I would never be without 1, 2 or even 3.
