Yesterday I quite surprised yet thoroughly pleased that a older married couple living in my neighbour street had just become the proud owners of a new ex race K9 via the GAP. As I was informed this male K9 had over 100 starts & was a handy type that won his fair share. I had a look at him & was quite impressed as he was still very well cut up, had great solid muscle tone , a bright eye & coat was soft & shiny etc etc. 2 me I don't think this bloke had been finished racing all that long ago as he was still very keen on the lead as they walked him. I told them the ususal stuff like this K9 breed r very easy 2 look after & care 4 & will lay around all day + will eat just about anything you put in front of em - well every 1 I've had did ! They don't require 2 much exercise but maintain good fairly high fences & gates & ensure yards are secure & "houdini" proof cos I've had some some real good escape artists in my day ! They decided 2 get a GAP K9 as they had always seen me regularly with K9's when I was training & always talked 2 me about how were they going etc etc & were fascinated by them - who wouldn't be - & when they heard about the GAP & that there were plenty of ex race K9's looking 4 a home they signed up & got themselves 1 of their own. I offered 2 give them any advice they may need or help with anything if required in the future cos I was so happy 2 c a regular couple taking on a ex racer giving it another life 2 live the rest of its days. So the GAP does work , just need 2 make it a lot more socially known 2 inspire others 2 get a ex racer 2 . Well thats my new story. Regards folks Steve...
