In a cheap publicity stunt, Ashley Fruno from PETA has written to iconic Aussie rock band Hunter and Collectors asking them to change their name to discourage people from hunting animals.

Rather than clicking on a link and giving the article the publicity they seek, I have included the text from the article in its entirety

AN animal protection group is calling on iconic Australian rock Hunters & Collectors to change its name.

The Australian head of campaigns for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has written to the members of the 1980s rock group urging them to consider the name change to discourage people from hunting animals.

We feel sure that it was never your intention to promote the killing of intelligent, sensitive, and defenceless animals, but your name may nevertheless make hunting seem appealing to your fans, Ashley Fruno, PETAs associate director of campaigns, wrote.

Nearly 300,000 Australian waterbirds face an agonising death during hunting season, which opens in Victoria and Tasmania next week and is already underway in South Australia.

As your Adelaide reunion show is coming up, now is the perfect time for a band namelift.

PETA gave away the game, indicating the group was really after a cheap publicity stunt than a serious request by suggesting Hunters & Collectors of Antiques and Hunters & Collectors of Beer Cans as possible replacements.

Ms Fruno suggested by agreeing to change the name of the band, the members would help raise awareness of the cruelty inherent in hunting waterbirds and give ducks a fighting chance.

The band, best known for 1992 release Holy Grail and fronted by singer-songwriter Mark Seymour, is yet to comment on the request.

PETAs move to get the Hunters and Collectors to change their name because its antagonistic to animals is a great start but it is only the beginning.

Here are 12 other names that will have to change before we can finally achieve peace with our four-legged brothers and sisters.

The problem with these types of stunts Geoff is that they're so ridiculous, you cant help but talk about them & have a laugh at their expense.

Then because we talk about his crap between friends, there'll be those that have sh1t for brains & support these stupid stunts with donations & the like......Then in turn these idiot groups get their pathetic names broadcasted in very direction.

It's a vicious circle that pray on the coins from those that are naive & or weak.

The government is bring out that many stupid rules stopping us from doing this...& stopping us from doing that.

Well it's time they started listening to the public & shutting down these scabby groups.

PS. Slight chance in one of those Songs IF i MAY.

What we actually should talk about is ethics in relation to animals. There are groups out there, feeding dogs with veggie food and say this is ethically right.

I don't think it is,
as :
If we accept a carnivore being fed as a herbivore, we will vice versa accept a herbivore being fed with meat - and we had the real problems with (not hot enough processed) sheep powder being feed to cattle resulting in BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy). From an ethic point of view this should have never happened at all feeding a herbivore like a carnivore.

So let us talk about ethics, not about ridiculous "Antis"
Life is to short, to play silly games (quote Fairground Attraction)

What is ethically right in relation to animals - to dogs - to Greyhounds? What can we do, to get a racing dog provided the needs of the species dog? Can we improve their living conditions and how, without affecting their racing abilities.

Let's talk about ethics.

If this group would think and talk about ethics (as their name suggests) not politics, they'd prevent being asked, to change their name into People Erase The Brain
