I have just adopted Greenfield South pet name Maximus from Bridgend Dogs Trust on 21st March 2017. He is a small male Black Greyhound only 26" from neck to tail and at the moment he is recorded at 28 kilos. He has fitted in very well with my two other Black Greyhounds. I now have three Black Greyhounds. I recently lost a Black Greyhound called Merlin from Bone Cancer on 9th March 2017 he would have been 13 in May I also lost Menta an White Wired Hair Ibizan Hound from Heart Failure on 20th March 2017 she went totally blind overnight in June 2014 and found to be Diabetic in November 2014. She would have been 12 today.

The dogs trust do a fantastic job , we adopted two Greys from them in January 2013 , they settled in well and certainly know what a cushy life is.

I am afraid I lost Maximus on 12th February 2018 from Bone Cancer in the knee Joint of his rear left leg. The whole of his left back leg blew up on New Year's eve, eventually his leg was removed on 4th February 2018 and over the next week appeared to be doing okay. However Saturday Afternoon 10th February 2018 there appeared lots of blood dripping from part of the remains of the leg. I took him to the out of hours vets on the Saturday and Sunday for it to be checked over and bandaged up, on both times I was told it looked bad and to take Maximus to my own vets on Monday 12th February 2018 where he was checked by both Jess and Maria our vets who both said there was nothing they could do for him, so we had to let him go. This meant I only had Maximus for ten months and also meant I had lost three Hounds in ten months. Merlin nearly 13 years old (Greyhound on 3rd March 2017 my best Gentle Giant Mate of nearly 10 years) Menta 12 years old White Wired Ibizan Hound on 13th March 2017 who had been with me for 8 years from Pro-Galgo Spain, and now Maximus Greyhound 9 years 4 months Adopted from Dogs Trust Bridgend in late March 2017.
This has meant that Mars my Dogs Trust permanent Foster Greyhound (male 5 year old on 3rd March 2018) is pining because Maximus is no longer with us as they were best mates. Therefore I have been looking out for another Greyhound male mate for Mars. Mickey and Kelly, two 11 year old Greyhounds are a couple. I also have Cleopatra a Golden 9 year old Ibizan Hound from Spain who is 9 years old in October 2017, who likes the three Greyhounds but is an individual and would prefer one of her own type.

How do I find the Registered name and pedigree for a Greyhound who has ear marks Right Ear LA Left Ear BXD I assume he was bred in IE as they are green.

If you phone the Irish coursing Club 052 6188511 give them the ear marks they will give you the dogs name ect ..

Thanks I ran the Irish Coursing Club and they were very pleasant and gave me all his pedigree etc information. I was surprised to find that he had never raced but had 6 trials. So now he is at Bridgend Dogs Trust. I took my four Hounds to meet him it went very good I had to smile as my Ibizan Hound Cleopatra thought she had found a new boy friend. He is now reserved to me. At the moment they are carrying out lots of tests because he appears to be drinking far more than what they consider the correct amount. Hoping to have him home with us soon as he will be 7 on 18/4/18 he will be my 7th Irish bred retired Greyhound since taking on Jagger (Manor Lamp at 7 & 1/2) in February 2001.

Very sorry to hear that you lost Maximus, Ted. We lost our boy to bone cancer back in November , just ten days short of his 11th birthday. Our other adopted Grey ( Tina, that's her in the profile pic ) was diagnosed with a tumour in January and is under medication, however they cannot operate. She is well enough in herself but is just starting to find her walks a little tougher, it's a day to day thing and as soon as she shows us and signs of distress then we will have to say farewell. They are such a wonderful breed but can be such heartbreakers.

I lost my best mate Merlin a Black Greyhound at the age of 12 years 10 months after he had been with me for 9 years 3 months in March 2017 from Bone Cancer. He was first found to have bone cancer in both front legs in September 2016 after he suddenly complained of extreme pain in both front legs. Our vet x-rayed him and told me about what she had found, she injected him with a pain killer and he was then okay until just before Christmas when he had another spell of this extreme pain in his front legs. After again being injected with a pain killer he was then placed on a course of Cold Laser Treatment which scheme help him. However 9n 4th March 2017 he suddenly screamed with absolute pain from his front left leg. He was x-rayed on 5th March 2017 and found to have broken his front leg which was rife with bone cancer as was his right front leg and the bone cancer had spread into his chest area. The senior vet Jan said he could very easy repair the break but most likely Merlin could break that leg and probably the right one as well. After much discussion we decided for Merlin's sake we had to let him go. About 11 days later my Blind Ibizan Hound Menta who was also Diabetic collapsed when she realised Merlin who was her helper was no longer around, so I had to let her go to join Merlin. In Late March 2017 I went to the Bridgend Dogs Trust and rehomed Greyhound Maximus who was 8 years 5 months. He had been in another home for 5 years and had been returned in February 2017 no reason given. I found although he was my Hound he hated men and would hide in the back of my Dog Wagon if we tried to get him out at the vets etc. He was okay at home and would jump out of the Dog Wagon to run into the house. He refused to go for walks with any of the dog walkers wanting to stay with is Dad. Then on New Years eve his back left leg blew up extremely large, I spoke to the Vet phone vet nurse, who advised me to take him to my vets when they reopened after the Bank Holidays. His leg was x-rayed and nothing was found so my vet gave us some anti-biotics and pain killers this appeared to overcome the problem and Maximus started to use that leg again. Late August once again his leg blew up larger this time and he started to move around on three legs holding this left back leg up. It was x-rayed and found to have a very large cancerous growth on the knee joint after a number of trial remedies it was decide to remove that leg try to save his life and prevent the spread of the cancer. For the next week everything seemed to be okay. However on Saturday Afternoon 10th February 2018 I notice pools of blood coming from the remains of that leg. I took him to the out of hours vets who bandaged it up and gave me some more bandages to redo it late that night. I then took him to the out of hours vets again on the Sunday for them to bandage his leg and they also gave him an injection of a pain killer. They stated that it looked quite bad and to take him to my own vets when that reopened on the Monday. I took him as an emergency and when they inspected him they said that there was nothing they could do so we made the decision to let him go. This meant I had lost 3 dogs in 10 months. Also in October 2017 Mickey-Finn, 10 year 10 month Greyhound knee joint on his right front leg blew up on x-raying found to have a cancerous growth on that joint his chest was also x-rayed and found to be clear. It was decided in November 2017 to start giving him an expensive drug every 28 days at the referral Clinic/vets called the Smart Clinic where he had been since March 2017 having Acupuncture as he was suffering from knee and hip joint problems. Every Thursday he is still having Acupuncture. The drug is helping to stop the cancer spreading elsewhere but the lump on his knee is still growing. It cant be removed as it is preventing the breakdown of his leg. We are not sure how long he has, but as he is still enjoying life, is still going for short walks, will go out the back garden when necessary, still enjoying his two meals a day. He also cuddles up to me during the day and at night sleeps on his own single full size human bed. I am just letting him get on with life, I had thought about having that leg removed but both my vets and the Smart Clinic vets advise against putting a 11 year old through the op and they are not sure how long the recover time would be. Plus they are concerned that the same thing could happen with him as happened with Maximus after the removal of his leg, plus with Mickey it being a front leg. He still jumps into and out of the Dog Wagon when I take all four of them out for walks at the park. Which he decides have to be short walks, poo breaks.
